A study by the UK Office of National Statistics revealed only small differences in divorce in relationships with an age difference. This was using the entire UK dataset from the 1960s to 2005 Pubmed link While there is some evidence of small variations in the proportion of marriages that end in divorce by age difference, there does not seem to be evidence of a strong association. Update: I always think its weird when people muppets downvote actual factual information

Women in age gap relationships which last probably do gain power, but is that a bad thing? Some age gap relationships are founded on the younger person using the older as a mentor to learn and 'grow' in experience and power with. Age gap relationships don't fail much more often than non-age gap relationships. The only study which used a significant database (the entire UK dataset of marriages and divorces in the 20th century) showed that there is a difference but not a large one.

Most people in age gaps find they have a lot in common or they enjoy their differences. My last younger long term partner had very different political views from me and we had endless fun taking the piss out of each other as a result. We had a common interest in theatre and the arts (she went on to become an actress and show producer). My better financial situation helped (I didn't ask her to pay towards living expenses which saved her a lot) but she had a job and independent income.

It don't know why you're throwing shade on a lifestyle that works for both people. Anyone who dated DiCaprio knew it may not be permanent but got a significant boost to their lifestyle and professional income. He's actually been with his latest girlfriend (who earns a lot of money in her own right) for some time and she's broken the magic 25 barrier a few years ago, so who knows.

I think its reasonable for people to work out whatever financial arrangement suits them best. Instead of 50:50 I suggest a starting point is something proportional to your respective incomes. Like you I'm an older person who wants to find someone younger and I have no problem with contributing significantly more financially as my income is significantly larger than about 98% of the UK population.
