I wouldn't say they "lead to" the divorce. They certainly amplified the differences between us and character flaws we each had in ways that are really difficult to anticipate before you have kids.

Yes. In virtually every area of my life. Not necessarily a "change" to my core beliefs, but a fundamental reexamination of my presuppositions about the world, the people with whom I interact, and those I choose to trust. I still, largely, hold the same core values. My understanding of them has deepened considerably and I have added some that were either not on my list before or only unintentionally floating around my subconscious in an unorganized way. Purpose has taken on a new meaning for me. …

My contention remains that the relationship can grow beyond the problems you face today. That doesn't mean you can "save" your marriage. The marriage you had is dead and you shouldn't want to "save" it because it wasn't strong to begin with. If one of you commits to growing beyond the person you were who contributed to the decline of the relationship, it is possible that the other will follow and, jointly, you can build a better relationship than the one you had. Two problems complicate that dyn…

It doesn't sound like you are in a mindset to attend. So don't. Have your own party. If you're going to show up to a party like that, you have to be living as the best possible version of yourself. The man who has so much going on that he just stopped in, showed up to have a great time, and moved on to the next thing he has scheduled. If you're showing up worried about them "being lovey dovey," the insecurity will ooze out of every pore. If you can't shake his hand, get his name wrong when you m…

I'd advise looking inward for the reasons why a relationship is going better than the marriage. There are some outstanding answers about reconnecting with who you really are and building yourself into a better partner and man. You are the only factor you can actually control. You learned some things in your marriage that have made you a better partner and, likely, gave you more insight into selecting partners more intentionally. All of that can work to improve the quality of your new relationshi…

There's a solid video on YouTube titled "Why Men Get Blindsided by Divorce" where the speaker describes how women micro-change to augment the relationship over time. They expect their husband to do the same. That's not how a man's brain works. It's a fundamental disconnect between the sexes. Women are wrong to expect men to behave like women, men are wrong in how they interpret what is actually going on. If a man perceives a problem, he determines if it's fixable and if he has the tools to fix i…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
