All because due process and justice was served.Reminds me of mandatory arrest laws for domestic violence. Feminists lobbied for them, presumably because they thought men were being let off by sexist policemen or something, but they ended up drastically increasing the number of women arrested. Perhaps (just guessing) police had been letting women off for domestic violence? She wasn't the defendant in this case. So basically the most he could do is find the defendant not guilty and suggest a course of action, which he did. In fact I think he might be constrained from suggesting further legal action, though I'm not sure. As for why the husband doesn't do anything, he's plainly in an abusive relationship.
