Oh of course they aren’t. Not sure why you thought I was implying otherwise. Men go through hell, but because we spent so much time bottling up and suppressing our emotions, the hell we go through builds up and up until we explode over something small. Now of course not all men, lots of men find ways to work through their emotions through physical activities or even gaming. I don’t know many women like that. Most of the women in my family work to keep busy not out of necessity. So if work becomes frustrating they just turn to their husbands and say “should I quit?” It’s a lot easier to walk away from a job when you don’t have a family depending on you. 🤷🏾‍♂️ For most men, that’s not an option. Also I’d take nagging over physical/verbal abuse any day.

A lot of the time tho, men don’t deal with their emotions internally. Anger, lashing out, violence, closing people off, those are all common ways men cope with their emotions. I mean we’re already aware of men being the likeliest to commit suicide, more often suffer from depression, are silent victims of SA and other abuses from their childhood. We can’t sit here and act like, collectively, men aren’t struggling with their mental health.

Just because you’re using something to your advantage doesn’t mean you’re weaponizing it. It means you’re using it to your best ability to accomplish your goals. Realistically anything can be a weapon depending on the intent behind it, however even though I can choke someone out with a tshirt, I wouldn’t consider a tshirt a weapon.

When did I say bottling up your emotions was emotional intelligence? Empathy comes along with understanding your own emotions. You can’t understand or empathize with someone else if you don’t understand emotion yourself.

Emotional intelligence isn’t just about being in control of your emotions, it’s understanding your emotions and using them to your benefit. For example, your boss pisses you off and you go home and take that anger out on your family vs your boss pissing you off, you know it’s your boss that pissed you off and with that knowledge you don’t go home and take out that anger on your family.

The biggest indicator for postpartum depression in women is a history of depression prior to giving birth… the change in hormones set off an imbalance that influences their behavior. When men have their first child their testosterone drops dramatically, and if you’ve previously had hormonal irregularities (depression, anxiety, etc.) you’re more likely to be negatively affected by this hormonal change…
