1	Why We Pick Difficult Partners My mother was violent and I lived in fear of her for most of my childhood, she abandoned me when I was 12. I grew up scared of people, especially women. When I finally got into a relationship at the age of 27 my partner became violent within a couple of years. 5	Spinoff: Should you date a man who’s been “falsely” accused of rape? Lying and manipulative abuse can also escalate into physical violence. My ex was like this, she would hit me and then claim to be afraid of me when the police got involved. See also Crystal Mangum - the accuser in the 2006 Duke Lacrosse case, she was arrested in 2010 for the attempted murder of a boyfriend, and then for the successful murder of another boyfriend in 2013.
