What's the point of celebrating? Too much money to spend? I can't live in pretense and behave everything's fine and dandy, lovey dovey? It would be a non-event for me. No mention, no wishes. My ex did suggest we should have dinner somewhere. I told her that would give me indigestion.

My ex-wife and I never agreed on parenting styles. She told me our son tells all his friends at school that he hates his mother. She and he cannot carry on any conversation without them ending up shouting at each other. But once, when my son and I were dining out, we bumped into his young classmate who came up to me and told me, "Oh, you must be [my son's name]'s dad. He has said so many good things about you!" I'm far from a perfect parent, but that made my day.

I know how it feels. Exercise helps. I went swimming. Multiple long, steady laps. The repetition and rhythm helped to clear the brain. Get in shape. Keep in shape. It helps with focus, confidence and self-esteem. There is a Discord support group for divorced men actually, based in the US. Someone from this sub may already have reached out to you. They have fellow divorced guys who can offer a listening ear, emotional support, advice and even legal tips (US centric). I appreciate their effort but…

Please move on. I was in the same shoes as you too, exactly the same. I'm happily remarried now. Feel free to DM me if you just wanna chat. Keep positive and don't do things that you will later regret. No drugs, don't get drunk and don't just sleep around because you can. All that is just spiralling your life down to zero.

From the video: "1. Login to your dumb hubby's Reddit account and delete the video he posted about you cheating."

Consider legal advice instead of this forum.

Ignore her. It was totally consensual, and what's more, between a married couple for goodness sake. Of course, if you were to share them with a third party or make them publicly available, you're to blame. But otherwise, she has no legal grounds.

In all seriousness, you need to set a cap, especially if the bulk of her card spending is not for common, household expenses. I would allow one, or max two months of this sort of thing to go through. Some banks allow a spending cap to be placed on the supplementary card.

You should divorce your father too, IMHO. Embarrassing as it is to you, you should name and expose them -- and him too, definitely.

You need to ask probing questions about why they divorced, and how he sees you and your relationship as being different from how he saw his ex and their relationship, to gauge whether history will repeat itself with you if you do decide to settle down with him. Of course, whatever you hear from him will be one-sided, but you can tell a lot from his responses, eg. if all he says is "she was a damn b*tch" and just keeps blaming her for no legitimate reason, then you know. Ask him what in his view …

Hmm.... historical or going forward? Historical would be tough if your record keeping has been poor. You can refer to bank statements and credit card bills, and try to summarise them. If going forward, you can use a simple phone app if you have the discipline to key in every expense you make. I use Hello Expense. It is simple, I can create categories of expenses and different tags (which I use to specify payment modes), and best of all, it allows me to export them to CSV format, which I do every…

Even if you don't need her money, include it as assets to be split. More for signalling, if anything, so that she knows you are not to be trifled with. Otherwise if she sees you give in on this, she will assume you are giving in on other matters to and she will push harder. Don't concede so easily. Fight tooth and nail, for every dime and penny, every inch of territory. Be extremely calculating. That sends a signal.

Does she not have her own personal bank account and retirement savings? Those are fair game for splitting too.

Suggest you work out a budget as a family, with her. Consider yours and her income, and all the household expenses. Maybe for a horizon for the next 12 months. Good to put things down on paper, even an Excel spreadsheet. Then whatever shortfall becomes clear, and you can jointly decide on how to cover that shortfall (either spend less or earn more, and who to do so). It avoids the "he said, she said" problem and reacting emotionally to each other. It also helps to avoid overspending and builds s…

Your lawyer is absolutely right. It is during your child's time with her, so it should be at her expense whether insourced or outsourced. Do not budge. If you do, you will have to deal with shifting goalposts for the rest of your life.
