Ok, but there are other disabilities like Down Syndrome that are not part of the autism spectrum that you can call an intellectual disability.

Autism is a specific type of intellectual disability. It doesn't work as an umbrella term like the previously mentioned words.

Moron (from Ancient Greek moros meaning dull) used to be a medical term, but people started using it as an insult. So we replaced it retard (from French retarde meaning delay, backward, or subnormal). Then that word had to be replaced too. Give it a few more years and we're going to have to come up with yet another term because "intellectually disabled" is becoming a more satisfying insult every day.
