Fantastic post… they should pin this at the top of the thread and also make it a requirement that everyone reads it when they register to join this subreddit 😆

This is so true!… I’m more than 3 years divorced now and I do find myself from time to time thinking about my ex and feeling down….. then I remember the ridiculous arguments and moaning… like the time I was heading out of the house to start yet another 14 hour day and she’d be stood there on the doorstep berating me for a mid-placed teaspoon!! I had a good friend put this in context for me when I was in the early stages of divorce….he said something along the lines of “Looking back on your relat…

Fuck those so called friends....vacuous turds each and every one of them. Don't let them get to you OP ,consider it a lucky escape . Now, what do you want to do with the rest of your life?

This is so important… I’m not in the least bit interested in getting out in to the dating world and I’m 3 years divorced now. My oldest friend got divorced and went straight back in to dating and is now in a miserable marriage with an absolute horror show of a wife. I’d rather have a wank.

Amen brother.. 3 years for me now and whilst being single has its drawbacks , being free to live my life how I want way outweighs the downsides.

I can relate to your situation OP…. It’s hard. It will get better but you have to help yourself, as others have said above EXERCISE! Lift weights, go for long walks, work your friendships… put yourself out there and do not expect people to come to you. No turning back dude, only pain awaits you there, forward and forward only. Fake it to make it if that’s what works. Wish you the best of luck mate, I have a feeling you’ll be alright.

I also want my ex-wife to be happy....but for selfish reasons. If she's happy then like the OP states there's less likelihood she'll interact with me and also she won't hassle our son and lean on him. It is by far the best thing if she were to have her own path to walk and she's distracted by that.

Your STBX is nothing but a skanky whore....i got as far as when you mentioned she cheated on you and then i stopped reading and clicked on reply....to tell you this..... Your ex has already moved on. Disappointed ? don't be, this world is full of women like that, not your fault dude....she's a whore, i was with one too so i can speak from genuine experience. How you react to this is entirely in your hands...be a victim or walk the cooler path and re-take your life.

Op thanks for those words... you really nailed it. I’m within sniffing distance of being where you are after 3 awful years, the last of which I was locked down in the same house with the ex due to Covid. The mist is at last starting to clear and I’ve told her she has to move out sooner than planned just because I’m tired of living a life on hold.... the message seems to have been received and understood though I still expect one final swipe of nastiness before she goes. But your post gives me ho…

You're in a tough spot at the moment after having gone through some major shit so cut yourself a bit of slack because this shit is not easy. First thing to say i guess it that suicidal thoughts are never right and i'm not qualified to advise on that but i will say you should seek immediate help with that because all of this situation is born out of how you are viewing your situation and right now you are looking at things from a place of grief....both for the loss of your grandparent and your …

I agree with the above, it’s common but it’s not right... she’s keeping you dangling because it’s convenient for her and yes, she probably has some guilt . But it’s holding you back and you won’t truly move on until you cut the chord. I can speak from experience and I should take my own advice. I set the ball rolling for divorce in November 2018 and here I am in March 2021 and my ex is still living in my house ! It’s because of a mixture of waiting for our son to take exams ( trying to maintain …

Who gives a shit if it’s her birthday? You certainly should not.... you were nothing but kind and loving towards her and she threw it back in your face. Move on dude, she simply does not deserve the space in your head.... I know it tough because you’re a nice chap but I guarantee she ain’t thinking about you on your birthday. F*ck her!

As well as sorting the legal stuff you need to start working on yourself.... in fact start that process now. What I mean is look after yourself, pick up the phone and speak to your friends/family, build your support network....eat healthy and get exercising. Have a drink if you must but don’t let it be your crutch, knock drugs on the head if you do indulge... now is not the time to be getting high. Go for walks. There are plenty of social media support groups out there ... join them, they really…

You’re right of course... what pisses me off now is I have to be the heavy handed one and force her out in front of our son .... it’s not fair on me or my kid but I have to do this to move on.

I am in the exact same situation over here in England. I am divorced and the ex was supposed to move out in April last year and she couldn’t move out as back then everything was closed down. By summer she was spending more time in France with her family so I didn’t push for her to move out, then September came and Covid struck again and stupidly I said she could stay until Easter this year as that’s when our son would have finished his final exams and I would need to sell the house ( I bought he…

You need to build upon that absence of misery...sometimes we forget how fcuking awful it was with the ex's.

You are entirely correct and its not just in the USA....here in England we have some right monsters and i see these dudes walking down the street with these massively overweight hippos and i think how could you? Each to their own and all that but i'd rather have a wank than force myself to sleep with these hippacrocapigs.

Your words hit the mark with me today OP....im divorced now but the ex-wife is still living in the family home as we're waiting for our son to go to uni in a few months time. My sister invited me and my son for Christmas dinner today but not my ex wife....this meant that she was alone on Christmas day....as i left the house there was a tinge of sadness and i felt sorry for her. But then as i walked out the door i glanced at a certain chair in our living room and thought "Yeah, that was the chair…

The other guy is not the asshole... she is! Don’t you dare try to make it work with this bitch... she is a cheating whore and you know she is. The road ahead is going to be tough mate but it’s waaaay better than staying with a woman like that. You deserve better.

The pain will stop... won’t go away but it’s your choice and yours alone as to how you react to this shitty situation.... what do you want op? Do you want to spend the rest of your life looking back and feeling this pain? Or do you choose to move forward?... as hard as that is you know already what the answer is... that’s why you posted here.... you are amongst kindred folk who have been through this shit... talk to us, we’ll help. Selling that house is key for you I feel, I am in a very similar situation,I’ve paid my ex wife off and I have the family house ( plus the massive bastard mortgage) it’s too big for me and it’s in suburbia too... selling this place and downsizing to a smaller more central house will give me the fresh perspective that I and I suspect you very much need. Hang in there dude, good times are coming.

Another Englander here! Going through the separation right now... 2 years into this shit- show and I’m eventually divorced and she’s been paid off.... bitch is still in the house though as we’re waiting until kid goes to uni in 137 days ( yes I’m fcking counting!) Divorce is shit but it helps to talk....what’s your story Op?

Ok, so you’ve hit the bottom... question is, now what? Do you want be in a better place?...of course you do. So make a start, like others have said above, close your eyes and breathe.... this is a good starting point, get real with your reality, you are not freezing your ass off on the street are you? You are not living in Yemen with bombs reigning down on you and your kid every single day... things could be worse. I don’t want to diminish how you feel right now, it’s fcking tough and will be fo…

Amen brother!....you are so right. The Op is a nice, decent guy, that much is clear and somewhere out there is a woman for him who will appreciate him and get his boat rocking again. The ex?...she wants to lick minge and she's going her way and most certainly isn't your friend, stop being so nice Op ! I got as far as the second line in the second paragraph before a huge alarm bell started to ring..."We run a business together with her father"....you just watch now as you are squeezed out by the…

Your ex-wife is a fcuking whore....you are well out of it mate. But its really tough having the kids seemingly being manipulated by the ex into thinking this new dude is their "New" dad....he isnt. You are the father, its arranged that he's with you this weekend....hows about YOU take him to a sports bar to watch the game. Stand your ground on this one. You ex-wife is a fcuking whore...did i mention that before?

You don't want to leave your marriage prematurely?....get fcuking real dude the bitch cheated on you....3 TIMES !!! Don't want to be heartless here and of course I understand that you're worried about losing your daughter....this was the reason I stayed in my marriage for so long when it was clearly dead....but cheating? no way...never! Dude...I stopped reading by your second paragraph when I reached the bit where you said " At this point I am only allowed to do what I'm told without any discussion" Fuck that woman, it is time to move on my man....I can relate because I also allowed somehow to get myself Pussy-whooped by my ex-wife....never again! Its going to be tough for you given the age of your kids and the litigious nature of your wife....but ask yourself the question....do you really want to spend the rest of your life …

Yeah I hear you OP.... 1) Yes I pondered this one recently as I saw my dad get real sick and enter the final months of his life....but fcuk it, i'd rather face this than be with my ex. 2) Kids love you, you're a good dad, my lad is 17 now and knows I've been the stable influence in his life...no medal or accolade from him but I know he knows. 3) I'm ok on my own for now but I do understand....one thing I am not going to do is force the issue....if it comes my way then great...if not I think i'm …

This too shall pass, hang in there dude. Divorce sucks, there’s no other way of putting it... it’s shitty and we descend into some dark places, I know I’ve been there, but as unhelpful as this sounds it does pass, it does get better.

I’ve lost count of the times I said ‘ one last chance’ ... hard as all this is Op I sense you already know the outcome.... time to move on dude.

I’m doing exactly this right now and I’m (hopefully) coming to the end of it all and I’ll be free. Like you OP I didn’t want to end my marriage whilst my kid was young, mainly because I wanted to be in his life but also because I knew his mum would mess him up if she was the sole guardian for him... so I hung in there and it’s been years in the making, our marriage was dead a decade ago but I was busy with work so I didn’t focus on it. I threw a lot of money at the marriage...expensive Caribbean…

Fcuk that bitch...move on dude....i'm trying to and I know its hard, I have 2 years on you chap....I was with her for 30 years and then I found out the truth.... it sucks but you know what?...the marriage was dead years before and one of us was bound to stray...was never going to be me because I have honour and respect but all in all its freed me to live my life again...just as you are free now dude. Stay strong and believe in yourself....you are awesome.
