I understand hook up culture and sexual imagery can cause harm to people's self imagery and confidence, but I don't see how promiscuity is part of the harm, and I don't see how promiscuity by itself can be harmful at all. While it's true that we are becoming more sexually liberated, it's also true that people are receiving better and more sex education than ever. A few data points: Among teen females aged 15-19, 42% had ever had sex, and among teen males, the percent was 44%. These percentages h…

Why wouldn't I care about people other than myself?

Well... At the point I don't know what we are arguing about, since you obviously have very different opinions than the OP I was originally replying to. I'm not arguing against the idea of being a stay-at-home housewife.

According to your previous comment, you are only OK when she throw social events at your places. I'm pretty sure one would feel isolated when they can't spend time with friends without your supervision. Being at home all time will also limit her ability to meet new people and make new friends. Abuse and manipulation are more common than you thought. Most do them unawaringly, because human are naturally possessive creatures that have the tendency to control others. We all have weaknesses and some…

Will you be comfortable if a woman requires the same from you? That she is the one who controls your social life?

Maybe you can look up the viewer counts on any of those TV shows versus any mainstream news shows aim at an older audience. Then you'll realize how big the "mainstream" truly is. We are not the mainstream. The "hip" and "cool" teenagers who watch sexy TV shows are not the mainstream. The true "mainstream" is bigger, stupid-er, and much older.

You do realize you are saying you want a woman you can socially isolate, which makes her emotionally dependent on you, vulnerable to abuse, prone to loneliness/depression, and easy to manipulate, right? If you love someone, why would you want them to live like this?

Pretty sure many cultures doesn't consider men cheating to be immoral and there's nothing wrong with polyamory period. Edit: You corrected yours so I'll edit mine. Polyamory has been the norm for a large portion of human history. The conventional nuclear family is a comparatively new invention. That being said, while it's true that these are not necessarily Christian values, a large portion of Americans will consider them to be "Christian values". Just look at the mainstream news. How many times…

In regards to the subjects of this sub, I think 90% of Americans, Christian or not, will tell you adultery is wrong and practice monogamy.

Everyone wants a big social circle and your wife will have friends regardless. The time she saved from not working will not necessarily go to you. Do you mind her spending her energy socializing with her friends instead?

Or you can both share the "wifely duties" and have almost double the income for the whole household? The more she earns, the less you need to work, right?

Why not?

Your definition of "mainstream culture" seem very narrow. 65% of US adults are Christians. 88% of US congress are Christians. 45% of Americans believe America should be a "Christian nation". Literally all US presidents swore on the Bible in their inauguration. If you get off social media and look at the real world, there are few things in the west more "mainstream" than Christianity. Christian culture and Christian values have permeated almost everything.

So how does the mainstream culture actively push women to be promiscuous and "doesn't even offer women chasity options"?

People have been saying "you cannot change x, because there are too many assholes" for the majority of the history. And the response is always: Who the fuck cares? It won't stop us from doing and saying the right things.

It's impossible for any culture to be equally prudish to both parties as long as one party predominantly holds power in a society.

I'm not debating you. I'm just talking about my impression about you. And... You being defensive right now kinda makes it look even worse. And in my opinion, people who lived with severe negative judgement and still move on and thrive are the true champions of life. They are the ones with the actual highest status. People who shy away from challenges and confrontations with any status quo are nothing compared to those people.

Well, a stigma being old school doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And that was my point. It's something you can easily ignore, yet you choose to be so restraint with it. It seems a little sad to me. Not being with someone that has a reputation actually buys you social value and that in turn buys you more connections and opportunities. Well, we all want different things from relationships and I respect your life choice. But you saying this makes you seem like a classic elitist Disney villain who car…

That... Actually sounds pretty sad tbh. Imagine living in a way so restraint by old school social stigma. It's your right to have your own preferences of partners and I don't think there's anything wrong with your preference. But what you are saying right now actually make you seem a little pathetic.

And that's the point though. Modern psychology and education study has already moved passed the dichotomy of "praise" and "punishment". To elaborate, in recent years, study has found: 1, Punishment, especially physical punishment, doesn't effectively teach kids the right lesson. Punishment only teaches kids to avoid being caught. 2, Praise doesn't always motivate children. In fact, giving rewards to kids for doing something evidently reduce the kids' future motivation in such activities. Therefo…

You sound like a 2016 internet anti-SJW who doesn't actually consume any media. If you want to take it from me: I'm a male feminist and I'm definitely the "type" you are talking about, and I don't believe any of those you said. If you want to give some actual examples or evidences on your statement, then go ahead so we can actually talk about this.

Just so you know that the paper you sited is widely criticized for being reductive and is basically a laughing stock in today's academia right now. So don't take it too seriously. Roy Baumeister is a clown who's decades behind modern psychology. He's the kind of psychology scholar who think it's good to punish children than to praise them and that self-esteem is bad.

How would someone be a feminist if they deny a woman's freedom to choose?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/21 01:26 PM

1, I don't think any feminists would fight to "stop" the traditional gender roles. Choosing the traditional gender roles is one's freedom. Like, no feminist would stop a women from being a trad-wife. What feminists are doing is simply to make it so that the traditional gender roles are not forced on people, and that people who do not follow them won't be shamed. 2, The effect of traditional gender roles on our own sexuality is also part of who we are. It is helpful for us to acknowledge these ef…

I have many life-long friends who are women, and my fiance is a woman. We had a lot of good time together and they have helped me in so many ways. That's some pretty significant benefits. And I believe a man can also ruin another man's life as well. Most violent crimes happen between men and men, and that's a lot of deaths. Should we never interact with men as well? Also, I just checked the example you gave on Dr. Thomas Frieden. He plead guilty himself and there are no signs showing the allegat…

The cost of a traffic accident is death, and it's one of the most common cause of death. Sounds like a pretty big risk. What about talking to a woman?

First, men can decide if you are a jerk as well. For example I certainly think the guy in your link is a jerk. And I don't know about you, but since I believe I'm not a jerk, I'm not worried about being labeled as a jerk. Also, the risk of being labeled by some random people is simply too insignificant for me to decide to miss out on conversations and friendships with women.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/21 12:14 PM

Yes, repeatedly talking to someone while the person is clearly not interested, and while that person is literally at work, is being a jerk.

I don't think any hald-decent people would say anything like this to someone they know who did nothing wrong. If the person you approach react like this, then I think you just dodged a huge bullet.

I don't see the harm of my hypothetical dialogue being put online. And I think the risk of being shamed by our romantic interests is always there since the beginning of romantic interactions.

"Hey, do you want to go get a drink together?" "No thanks, I'm not interested." "Understandable. Have a good day." I don't see what's so paranoia-inducing here.

Sorry, I don't have any arguments against you; I don't have any intention to ban you; I'm not planning on doing any more research than I like to and I certainly won't bother to read any of your posts. However it is quite entertaining to watch you act like this intellectual powerhouse who go on crusade for your community as if you are a leader of some kind. You must have as little life as the amount of fucks I give about this conversation.

So... Here's what happened: Your neighbor told her friend to try to go on a date with a guy, even though she's not attracted to him yet. Your neighbor told her friend to give the guy a chance, and maybe she'll end up liking him. Your neighbor told her friend to have a good time, like anyone going on a date should be. One's priority should always be having a good time (for him/herself, of course). (Your neighbor and her friend didn't even mention what's the date about and who's paying for the dat…

Literally never heard any of these you just listed. "You're insecure" sounds like some typical gaslighting strategies and I've heard a few times from older males to younger men/women. "My ex was abusive" is something you are likely to hear from anyone who's had an ex.

I don't think anyone actually "fear" MGTOW. People just think you guys are pathetic. Nobody is forcing you guys to get married, and it's nice if you find a single life more appealing. But imagine making not getting married the entirely of your identity. Of course there are a lot of inequality in marriage laws and property distribution. Many feminist groups are already addressing these issues, so it's glad to see that MGTOW also act up and being politically active to challenge systematic issues..…

That's true, it's not necessary to get married if we are living together and sharing everything anyway. The perks for us is that, my wife (currently fiancee) and I travel a lot and work on projects in many countries, so it's legally easier for us to visit each other in different countries if we are married.

It's always a pleasure to watch someone with almost no knowledge on human biology talking about "evolution". I have a master degree in evolutionary anthropology, and I'll be the first one to inform you that almost everything you said is complete nonsense. First, of course love is "evolved" and nobody is denying that. The fact that you felt the neccessity to stress that makes me think you are just posing so hard to be edgy. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Divorce is terrible for the children and there's no winner in this situation. The best advice I can find is probably to find a good lawyer. Maybe you can turn things around. I don't know what led to the divorce, but if the mother has been abusive, then you should do your best to protect your son from her.

Wait... you delivered a cake to her on her birthday without telling her in advance? And you expected her you invite you to the party right as she received the cake? Unless you two are already very good friends, this type of action would weird anyone out. Listen, we've all done cringy things when we are teenagers, but I think you should've reached a point when you realize that you were just being socially inept. From the screenshot I don't see too much problems. There's nothing wrong with casual sex, and setting boundaries is important for any kinds of relationships and for any genders. We relate certain emotional reactions to certain actions, and doing certain things might lead to us being overly attached. For this person, this action is "cuddling". For others, this action might be kissing, chatting, etc. Take control of your emotions and don't be led into a relationship you don't want to get into. Thi…

Roommates are good enough. Nah I'd rather live with my best friend, which is my girlfriend. You save much more money by avoiding dates, gifts and many other unnecessary expenditures. We don't do expensive dates. Anything we do as dates I'd do even by myself. We don't give expensive gifts. The last gifts I gave her is a woodcarving I made. Been living with my girlfriend for a few years now and I can safely say that living in duos save a lot of money, especially on food and traveling. Not to mention all the extra earnings we get from investing our combined incomes.
