A lot of the guys commenting here think "oh that doesn't sound too bad", but keep in mind the email was without context. The addition at the end that OP made is key context. It's understandable that most of you probably haven't dealt with this personally and therefore can't see how it is another trap, she's scared she'll lose him (for his financial support, etc...) So she's trying to manipulate him (good cop) into thinking she's not bad and she really just wants to be loved and blah blah bullshi…

But Epictetus meant that you can be a master of yourself regardless of circumstances (including women). I think you need to be alone to realize this, but after you've been successful in being a master of yourself (most of the time, unless you're a perfect sage), you can do anything without it affecting you. He was a slave after all, and a happy one at that.

Nagging sucks (I'd say it's part of shit testing - which I see as the only down side of a relationship right now), you can leave a relationship before domestic violence occurs, you don't have to allow wallet leaching, you generally know if your partner has an STD if you've been with them for over a couple of weeks.
