Give boxing a try! Though in order to advance your skill in boxing, you'll have to spar (eventually). Invest in safety equipment should you decide to dabble in sparring and stay away from hard sparring until you feel comfortable. Or just stick with pad/bag work. Grappling is interesting in the sense you can continuously 'spar'. Head injury still happens but less frequent. Different theme of injuries (elbows, knees, sprains, tweaked joints, etc.). Join an mma gym and see which style suits you the…

Next. Edit: meant 'Ghost'. Edit 2: Keep ghosting and who cares if she's pissed off.

I started with MA first, from being sent to MA classes when I was in my youth. MA then led into lifting for either conditioning purposes, addressing muscle imbalances, or just plain trying to get stronger. Split was about 80% MA and 20% lifting, and somewhere in the routine there was a whole additional bucket where I did a shitload of cardio which probably more hours than MA and lifting training combined. Went to post-secondary, then all MA stopped, and it was just lifting. Exposure to MA was mi…

I used to smoke cigarettes. Did smoke much, but that's beside the point. Actually, that's the hamster. Rationalized social smoking in the past. Being a social smoker, resulted in me being a regular smoker at times. Rationalized that I would cut down. Blah blah blah. Finally internalized that nothing good ever comes from cigarettes. Any 'gain' you think you get from 'better game' because you smoke is far outweighed by your reduced ability to be awesome. Here's my ramble for cigs: Your lifting wil…

I am interested in buying bitcoin but I can't bring myself to do it. Not yet at least. From my limited understanding in economics and finance, my perspective on what currencies represent in the modern age, is that a particular currency's value represents the worldwide demand for that particular currency issuer's goods and services. I know this is a simplified representation of what a 'currency' is, but this is what makes most sense to me. In order to attend a US university, you'll have to pay in…

Grappling arts (bjj, judo, sambo), would complement your wrestling background well. Different attitudes regarding injury management though, and concussions can still happen under different circumstances, but less frequent in nature. Practitioners do get 'knocked out' from slams, bad falls, and other random accidents. Then there's also fencing/kendo/other weapon based martial arts as another option - I can't comment on the types of injuries exist in those arts but I would imagine concussions woul…

Sorry to hear about your situation. Those were some intense shit-tests you've mentioned. I interpret them as being intense as they contain 'cucking' undertones and that she can cross boundaries with no repercussions. Continue to remain calm. I will have to defer to others to comment about other courses of action and reference material (sidebar) to refer to, as I am a only fellow man with marriage challenges, albeit different, but still have challenges like yourself. But I would start with the fo…

There isn't anything gentle in the gentle art, and I'm saying that in the most respectful way possible. Grips of terror, I tell you.

I would do them in parallel. They each work different aspects of combat and I would think you would have better integration of the two if done at the same time. You may gravitate towards one more than the other, but doing both would give you perspective of what makes a well rounded martial artist. edit: ultimately comes to personal choice. Time, recovery, interest, and costs are all considerations.

Unnecessary debt (I am also making the bold assumption that it is credit card debt, as that's the credit that is most readily available or used when trying to impress) usually carries a higher interest rate. Credit card debt specifically has rates of 10%+. To put this into perspective - it is very difficult to achieve the same rate of return via active investing, in the long term. Thus the idea of paying off debt, results in a savings for you. The magnitude of the savings depends on the cost of …

Books - anything is good, but these seem solid, the more reading the better: -Why Stocks Go Up and Down by William Pike -The Most Important Thing by Howard Marks -There's a ton more, keep reading Personal life experiences: -Invest for the long term. -Perform some reflection as to what your risk tolerances are, then allocate accordingly. -Do not get frazzled by winners/losers in your portfolio in the short term. -Pay down your debt. If you have debt and it is not financing an asset that is making…

Check out the personal finance, financial independence, and investing subreddits. Read the top posts and branch out from there. As important as investing is, just as important is your personal spending and budgeting habits. The financial independence subreddit is a good resource because they heavily explore a concept called a 'savings rate', which is really just 'spending less than you earn', but also how you can employ this concept to the endgame - retirement. As for investing specifically, the…

I partially agree from the perspective that 'sport specific' techniques do not fare well in self defense, but there are some techniques that everybody should know from grappling to supplement their overall self defense training.

Wrestling athletes are tough as freaking nails, with pure willpower. Grappling sports provide purpose and application from the benefits of the individual's lifting program (applying functional strength in a competitive setting) and diet (making weight for competitions). The positives of being in wrestling are amazing. Judo and BJJ are great too, but wrestling provides more opportunity for explosive, unfiltered, expression. Only negatives I can think of is those ears and skin diseases, but whatev…

Other than the workload management strategies, (communicate or deliver, requesting more resources, etc.) - what has kept me going (in addition to always having something to 'look forward to' which is what you are suggesting with vacations) is doing a summary of the trials and tribulations of the project both during and after and communicating this to the higher ups so it's on record. I'll make a judgement call as to whether it warrants a revision in compensation (especially as it's happened befo…

I always thought this was a strange shit test, especially if we aren't in a gym setting or whether they know/don't know you're into lifting. I usually 'size them up' in a non-creepy way (as best I can) and just say "I can lift you". Depending on the scenario I may even ask them how much do you weigh and then say the same thing. If they are legitimately into lifting or interested (if it doesn't feel like a shit test), I'll go into the topic with them at a super high level.
