Lawyer up like you’ve never lawyered up before, paternity test no matter what she says at this point in time. Did I mention lawyer-up? Lawyer up.

You’re clearly close (timewise) to the adultry/breakup/betrayal, it’s evident in your emotional post. I’m about 7+ years out from my split. She was banging a dude from work. They were getting hotel rooms, sneaking around behind my back. They even got pregnant and had an abortion, all while we were still cohabitating. Anyway, all this to say that it gets better. You’ll stop thinking about her bit by bit, whatever pedestal she was once on will crumble to expose exactly who she really is. Then you …

Time to make your own special events. Don’t go to the ex in-laws, take the kids out for a special dinner so you can celebrate with them. They get two of everything now. Your family has been split into two, you’re in charge of one half, make it special.

My wife left me for another man. There was gross infidelity and the 6-9 months time between her ending things and her finally moving out of the house were a shitshow. There was betrayal, gaslighting, lies etc. Having said all this, I still take 50% of the blame for the marriage failing. However, she gets the grand prize for making it as shitty and painful as possible for me. We don’t talk.

Playa del Carmen. I never go to a resort, I get a room in town, around 38th ave. Then I have the entire town as my resort, plus lots of fun things to see and do nearby. Great beaches, cenotes, action parks, etc.

It’s become a yearly tradition for me since the wife left, I go solo to Mexico every February. Looooove it.

This is a perfect time to grab a pad of paper and just write whatever comes to mind for about 20 minutes. Repeat daily. You can rip it up or send it off to sea afterward so no one else sees it. I guarantee you’ll feel significantly better.

I am the exact same, and I’ve learned there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If I see her in public, or at kids’ events, I don’t even acknowledge her. She’s someone I used to know. There was too much hurt when we split, well beyond my threshold. (messy infidelity on her part) It triggered a kill switch in me where my brain decided there cannot be any kind of relationship with this person at all. Part of it is that I know she is not worthy of my friendship, so she gets zero. Unfriended on soc…

I am posting from a bus in Mexico, my flight arrived about half an hour ago. It’s my third annual (post divorce) trip to Playa Del Carmen, I stay in the town at a fairly inexpensive but nice place near the beach. (Not an all-inclusive) I go to various restaurants, whatever I’m feeling. I meet tons of people from all over, I go to cenotes and Mayan ruins, see live music, it’s always lots of fun.

He’s acting avoidant. IMO, he likes you but you’re not ‘the one’. He doesn’t fully understand that yet, but next time he breaks up with you, move on. It’ll never work. Source: divorced guy, been there, done that.

I’m not far off from you in many ways. 54, divorced, two kids one still at home, also king-sized at 5’8. (Lol) but gifted with genes that make me look 35, above-average looks and a full head of hair. I live in a city of approx 1m people. I tried the apps, had some success, but absolutely hated it. I did have a girlfriend for 3 years who I met via Bumble, and numerous dates, flings etc. What finally worked was when a good friend set me up with one of her friends and we hit it off spectacularly. A…

I always pay on the first date but only do coffee for first dates. Dating is a numbers game, so I ain’t paying for anyone’s dinner until a second or most likely, third date.

Write everything down, just start writing with a pen and paper. It will help you organize your thoughts and understand yourself and your situation better. Do it every day. Be active, walk, run, workout, whatever works for you. Make sure you’re sleeping well and drinking enough water. Focus on your physical self and rediscover things that make you happy. Bit by bit, you’ll find a new happiness within yourself. Good luck my bro.

We separated in 2019, official divorce in 2021. There was infidelity on her part and too much hurt to reconcile. She’s an excellent mother and has been more than reasonable in every way since we split. Having said that, she’s basically dead to me. We do not speak or interact other than text and email. There is no “care” at all, she’s a complete stranger, someone I used to know. 🤷‍♂️

Not sure where you located but generally no, you would not be eligible to collect anything from her. Why would you want to? Pretty revenge? Move on and be your best self, forget about her and her stupid, ugly boyfriend.

I went through the exact same thing. Wife left me for a coworker. They were banging for sure. I was close with her mom and I understand the urge to want to tell. However, it’s best to be stoic and resist the urge to blab. It accomplishes nothing. They probably already know, or will figure it out soon. Just move on with your life without her or her family. Reclaim your dignity, quit Facebook, hit the gym etc.

12 and 1? Oof. IMO, you’ll need to work out a compromise of sorts, forget 50/50 for now. Isn’t your 12 year old in school? Also, keep in mind, once divorced, you will no longer be a team - when you say “we” no longer need daycare, truth is “she” doesn’t need it because she somehow works from home while taking care of a baby. (?!) You need to look into options for daycare for when you have the baby. However, considering the age of your youngest, it might be in everyone’s best interest (especially…

I didn’t know the AP, he was a work friend of hers. But he knew full well he was nailing a married woman. I blame her but will always think he’s a piece of shit. They’re married now, but I don’t speak to her at all and I’ve never acknowledged his existence. It’s a bit weird and tense at times because we have shared custody of kids but fuck em.

I’m doing it. I’m 53, we split 5 years ago so it’s not fresh, but I am single and living the life you are describing. It’s peaceful, I do what I want. My kids go back and forth 50-50, they are thriving, our relationship is great - much different than their relationship with their mom, but it’s great. My marriage wasn’t toxic or horrible, we just stopped communicating and drifted apart until she cheated. A very common scenario these days. Anyway, you can do it, you will rediscover yourself, you’l…

You both hire lawyers, tell them what you want and have them deal with it. You don’t know what you don’t know. Amicable or not - you absolutely need a lawyer. FYI, your stuff is probably worth much less than you think. It’s not like insurance where you calculate replacement value, it’s more like garage sale value of everything. Then split that 50/50. Good luck!

💯!! OP: have you ever heard of someone regretting hiring their own lawyer for a divorce? There’s a reason this is the first advice divorced people will give you. Don’t live with regret.

Get your own lawyer. Having one lawyer to do this is a mistake. You need an advocate, not a mediator. The marriage is over, you are separate entities, get someone who will give you advice that works for you and only you. No matter how you feel, she has moved on, thrown you in the trash. Having said this, I completely understand how you feel at this moment. Your feelings for her are still lingering, understandably. This emotion is to your detriment at the moment, clouding your better judgement. B…

Tell them the entire plan. Kids that age aren’t thinking about you or their mom’s well-being, they need to know what their life will look like moving forward. Kids are inherently self-centred. Telling them the plan will give them some sense of security in a potentially chaotic situation. My kids were about the same age as yours when we split. We didn’t talk to them about it until we knew what we were going to do long-term. Regardless of your relationship with your STBX, you both need to be on th…

Honestly yes, it’s a bit weird. Especially at kid’s events, but it’s how it evolved. The way things initially went down set the tone. She was hyper-shitty and made some really bad decisions which made me completely lose respect for her. She’s a good mother, but not someone I’d ever like to intermingle with again.

We’re on professional terms. Email and text only. Kids or money discussions only. It’s cordial and much more pleasant than talking to her. When we bump into each other in person we avoid each other, no face to face, no acknowledgement.

It’s painful and sad, but a necessary part of life. The person I spent 14 years with, most waking hours, all the sleeping hours, we were best friends, had kids together, experienced so much life together. Now we don’t speak and avoid eye contact if we spot each other in public. She made decisions that forced me to make decisions and here we are. She’s quite literally dead to me, I’ve mourned it, now life is different. But all is well. All this to say, rip off the bandaid. You have to go no conta…

Studies show this is an effective treatment for depression. I second this, monitored by someone who knows what they’re doing.

About a week prior to us splitting, she left her phone plugged in downstairs as she went to bed. A flood of texts came into it around 11pm which was unusual. All from a guy I had never heard of named Justin Fast forward a week, we split, she denies cheating, a week later she leaves her email open on the computer, I see Planned Parenthood emails confirming her appointment. I was snipped many years ago. But not Justin!

You’ll regret it in the future if you don’t do it. This is strictly business, treat it as such.

Marriage is a negligent act, much like skydiving. ie: if something goes wrong while skydiving, it’s catastrophic. Plus, there’s no negative consequences if you don’t skydive, therefore, it’s a negligent act. Marriage is the same. The failure rate is close to 50%, it’s often quoted higher than 50%. My marriage failed, it was catastrophic to me. I certainly won’t ever do that to myself again and I would discourage anyone who asks me from making the same mistake.

I think the broader take-away is that in today’s (modern western) world, women are much more empowered than they used to be, they have more money and job prospects, they don’t need our protection as much etc etc. Men’s traditional roles have been eroded to almost nothing in the modern relationship. Therefore, women don’t “need” us as much as they used to. Therefore, if the relationship isn’t going the way they want, they leave with little hesitation, unlike the old days. Even worse, they spend t…

OP, please read up on walkaway wife syndrome. Most guys on this sub should read it too. It gave me a huge window into what happened with my marriage. Nowadays, 70% of separations/divorces are initiated by the woman, there are reasons. When you’re too close to it, you can’t see it.
