Ill-mannered? Ok, well thankyou for dripping your well thought-out, politely worded mind sweat onto my screen. It was not "my" definition of rape per se, it was the report's. And the US law. And Australian law. And U.K law. More women suffer this legally and academically sanctioned interpretation of rape than men. I imagine there are very strong grounds as to why the OP's case is considered sexual assault and not rape. Hence the legal and academic differentiation.

I'm a man. I have feelings. I said numerous times he must have felt violated. That is a horrible feeling. But violation is not 'dependent' on rape. There are many situations in which one is made to feel violated.

At no point do I say women have it worse. Though if you look at any piece of data concerning rape and sexual violence then yes, they do have it 'worse', if that means it happens with far greater frequency.

Well, the discussion I was trying to raise was the weight/resonance of using a word such as rape to describe any form of sexual attack. I do not think he is 'lucky' for not being penetrated, he is unlucky for having gone through an unsettling experience. You haven't really responded to anything I said... I still maintain that calling this instance a rape undermines the trauma that millions suffer on a daily basis.
