Maybe 1,000. You can get nice-fitting suits at H&M to start for about $300, but I've never heard good things about their quality. Anyway, you don't have to start off buying a 1k suit and ensemble. Star small–a new pair of jeans here, a new shirt there, and build it up.

t-shirts i dont get tailored, nor jeans, really; sometimes you may need to get them hemmed, but there are so many styles and cuts of jeans that you rarely need to get it done. I'm a big fan of slim-straight jeans–Levi's makes some pretty good ones, and you can get them pretty cheap. Get some nice jackets, and wool coats. I don't know about LA, but my tailor in Berkeley has a degree in fashion design and charges about $100 to do a suit (shirt included), $25 for shirts, about $40 for jackets, and $25 for pants. Pretty reasonable IMO. I like to bring in photos of how I want my clothes to look from magazines. This is the question, isn't it? I think it's something all of us struggle with at the beginning. Just keep practicing, and you'll find it eventually! EDIT: You know what helps me?
