That is the dumbest response I've ever read on reddit. If you spend a lot of time around here, then that's really saying something. If you conceal your birth gender from a sexual partner, you're still lying by omission. Do you go around reassuring people that you were born with a penis? Do you expect women who aren't trans to go around reassuring people that they weren't? How come only trans people need to confirm it one way or the other for our partners, or else it's lying by omission?

I'm not "actually" a man. I'm a woman. I'm also a lesbian, for which I thank God, because it means I don't have to deal with picking my way through the minefield of offended machismo when I tell my partner that I'm trans.

For me, sure, that's how I'd roll. But every trans person has to make their own decision about when or if to come out to someone. I'm not in their shoes, I can't make their decision. If she's looking for a relationship, I think it is reasonable to tell ahead of time. But if she's looking for a one night stand, what's the problem if she keeps it to herself?
