Yeah I mean in terms of relationships I often hear “oh you deserve the best!” until I actually assert that I deserve more and then it’s, “ok…well everyone has faults you can’t just swear off men.” Edit: & in terms of just daily life it’s difficult to avoid men completely, but as soon as I imply that I might remain alone if not treated amazingly in my relationships, my friends and family get uncomfortable and defensive. It’s really interesting.

I don’t know if this resonates with anyone but I think of it like what many of our parents told us about safety: if you’re lost or in danger, don’t look for a man, find a woman or better yet a woman with kids. While it’s true that women are perfectly capable of doing harm, I trust the average woman stranger 100 times more than the average male stranger, and at the beginning of dating you’re strangers to each other. Not going 50/50 to me includes initiation, effort, and planning as well as paying…

To respond to that he made sure he always sided with them, while my friend was actively treating me like shit only at times when our other roommate was out of the house. And my then boyfriend had a hard time believing they would do that, and made sure to ask if the problem was with me.

This is like the most revelatory piece of advice I’ve read on here. It’s really sad how many men will jump at the opportunity to tear us down or exploit our insecurities when they claim to “love” us. When a super similar negging situation happened a year into my last relationship after I revealed I was having conflict with a friend, it was crushing. If I had used this strategy, it could have saved me so much time.

It’s so crazy and entitled! They’re literally saying we owe them effort they didn’t attempt to even put forth. Disgusting

Pan’s Labyrinth vibes! The scene with the bleeding uterus in the book will stick with me forever.

Anyone else seen From The Back of the Room? I think it’s on youtube but it had so many good insights about sexism in punk in the 90s :)

Stay strong!! You deserve so much better than a liar and a cheater. The painful part of this situation is that it seems like he is trying to preserve “plausible” (putting that in quotes bc you know what’s up) deniability and play on your feelings. This is your chance to leave this pain in the past forever, and live in your own self designed peace.

Oh interesting, I’m a bisexual woman and I could never bring myself to watch lesbian category porn (back when I was trying to convince myself I could like porn generally) because it was so alienated from what I am attracted to in women and seemed to be geared entirely to the male gaze. Obviously the problem is so much worse with hetero porn, and usually more violent and degrading. And then if you watch gay porn or just dudes cranking it (forgive me lol), the men in the videos either looked like …

Yeah, only a little related but a woman on a certain forum was asking for advice regarding her boyfriend telling her about his teenage INCEST FANTASIES of his OWN BIOLOGICAL SISTER 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮. Everyone saying she should dump him and it was not normal was getting downvoted to hell, and the top comments were ones saying how brave he was for sharing. Almost deleted reddit right then and there, I was so disgusted

Yeah, he is a disgrace and a loser! He doesn’t contribute anything to the literal place they live, most people’s biggest expense, and won’t even treat her nicely.

Or being rejected/socially policed by other women. Or having men assume that you’re interested in them and preemptively reject you.

Lol yeah I broke up with my ex at the end of March and he was “just about to send me my VALENTINE’S gift!”

She looks good. She’s a good mom. She fucks you. Those are the only 3 things he cares about or likes about her. So telling. I am disgusted.

Wtf!! And needless to say, it’s such a trap and a lie. My friend (who, yes, is extremely conventionally attractive and has a large social media following, literally a talented media artist so her content must have been well made, so in theory she had a lot of “odds” in her favor) was hard up for money and decided to try OF. She made literally $0, got degraded by men in her messages or whatever, and had men try to trick her into giving them special treatment/content for free.

This made my blood boil. Men really think women are here to improve them and make them into better people, to advance them to the next step in their own personal hero’s journey. My ex would ask me to remind him of his own personal business and self improvement, things like finding a therapist or doing his very few work or school tasks, and then when he did not fulfill his responsibilities he would blame me for not “pushing him” hard enough. It’s scary to be seen as a plot device/secretary in a L…

So true. CW: Self harm My ex told me at first that his ex girlfriend took advantage of his kindness and caused him to self harm. Guess who was blaming me for “making” him self harm a year later? I now realize that she probably just would not bend to his manipulation, or told him some hard truths that he couldn’t handle.

yeah :( I love punk music and was looking to connect with other women about bands and stuff, but anything related to punk+women or girls is porn.

Yes! I made a post asking about a common sexual side effect of a common medication I’m on in the subreddit dedicated to that medication, and got a weird middle aged man sliding into my DMs to “help”...lmao no thanks! Keep it in the comments, no need to chat. Edit: His advice? To try being more kinky 😭

This is so, so familiar to me. My ex would tell me how “strong” I was for dealing with his BS and “helping him understand” too.

My friends and I talked about this a while ago, how we all agreed that we got catcalled and harassed in public way more as younger teens (12-16) than we ever have as adult women.

Thank you, yes. I don’t wanna ever feel like I owe a man, and have been super adamant about 50/50 in the past just so it would be easier to leave without guilt if need be.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
