Good advice, thank you. I don't have an issue paying some spousal support. I just want it to be fair, and it just seems like there's a lot of scenarios where I get totally screwed.

OK I just ran one of the calculators and used 18K a year for her income. For 50/50 custody, it has me at $1162/mo maintenance and $1978/mo in child support. That's freaking insane and it's about 56% of my take home pay! WTF? How can I survive on less than half my paycheck? And still pay half my kids expenses? Would a judge actually do that?

There's no way I can buy her out of the house. I have a friend who showed me those calculators. The problem is - what do we put in for her income? She doesn't have any. His ex wife was similar and I believe a judge used 18K for her salary. So, you're telling me if it's 50/50, she'll be getting spousal AND child support from me? And I still pay for half the kids expenses? How is that not bullshit? Do they just automatically try to screw the fathers in every case, despite me being the better paren…

Yeah, 2 of them are under 18. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure child support goes up to 21 in NY

Appreciate the honesty! Yeah I realize all that - which is why it would be great if we can somehow work it out in mediation and avoid the lawyers. The house - both our names are on it. What I would like to do is live there another 5 years till my youngest graduates - then we split the sale money. My retirement - yeah that one sucks and really pisses me off, but I probably just have to accept I'm gonna lose half. Why would I need to pay her child support though? Even if she got 50/50? NY 2 kids under 18 No college funds- all my money has gone towards the mortgage and bills.
