there is a lot of money to be made in convincing people their happiness is only a card-swipe away.

yeah, there's a balance to strike, but once again, our culture mocks moderation. everything in excess. the mark of a strong man is his self-discipline and control of his appetites.

it is the basis of western consumerist culture. we destroyed god and the nuclear family; only to be replaced with our favorite fast food, crap television and overpriced automobiles.

we're not taught to be the sources of our own happiness.

I used this line in a fight I had with my oneitis back in the day. The flabbergasted look on her face said everything. She really *didn't*** give a shit about me, only bout how I made her feel. It was a priceless moment.

That is entirely untrue. Dies your dog have the vocabulary or linguistic/social capability of a 4 year old? Nah. It doesn't.

a renaissaince of gender roles? not one based on social or religious dogma, but on an objective understanding about what makes our species happiest across the board?

i cuss because i want to cuss. i was raised in a fundamentalist religious group and was an officer candidate in the military. i can put on a sqeuaky clean voice if i feel it's necessary, but everyone knows it's a facade. i'll say whatever the fuck i want, whenever the fuck i want. i'm the 4th option, someone tired of having their language censored through group shaming.

That's a question I've had about AA responses. I've often felt that some situations simply merit no response. I don't respond to every mentally ill transient I encounter, because their ideas are absurd. By reacting, there is, to some degree, an implication that their ideas merit an actual response. Fuck that, there's no winning against crazy. Imm'a just mosey on through crazy town.

exactly. you can never make a truly "arbitrary" choice. you options are predetermined, hence your decision. unless you're nucking futs.

At the end of the day, we're all PEOPLE. We just have differences. Trp helps to navigate them in a discernable way.

It's amazing how far having integrity and being straightforward will get you. You're right, it's not even game; it's simply making an accurate, objective appraisal of them as a person. The pedestal was never even in the room.

Challenge: accepted i can't express, as a young man, how difficult it is to find truly worthy mentors. also, how difficult it is to avoid the terrible ones as a subordinate.
