When feminists suggest this, they're not suggesting you start making romantic gestures towards other men; they're suggesting that the fact you see those gestures as purely 'romantic' is potentially limiting the actions you feel comfortable taking around other men, they would say unnecessarily. "Romantic" is not some inherent quality of simply touching someone. My male Pakistani friends hold hands and it's got nothing to do with romance, my female friends hold hands and it's got nothing to do wit…

The OP talked about his relationship with his friends and father, not women. In fact the only mentions of women in this thread are about how they don't understand the way men bond with each other. Loneliness of the incel variety sucks, but not all discussion is targeted at people lonely due to romantic problems.

The topic of the thread is male bonding, and whether or not it's appropriate for people to suggest more physical affection in male friendships as a way of combatting toxic masculinity. You said that the suggestion is equal to suggesting men become gay. Clearly, as physical affection and "being gay" are not the same thing, this doesn't make any sense. What does this have to do with men pining to experience those things with women?

I'm saying there's cultures all round the world where hugging, holding hands, or cuddling whilst watching films, and all sorts of physical affection is platonically practiced by heterosexual friends, including much of the Middle East and South Asia where attitudes to homosexuality are stridently opposed. You're presenting your very narrow band of behaviour you consider normal as if it were a biological imperative, rather than just something you absorbed from culture. I'm not saying you need to c…

Cuddling, holding hands, and being affectionate does not make you gay. Unless all the radical homophobes across the Middle East are secretly gay. Women cuddle and hold hands and are generally more affectionate than men, and they are not all lesbians.

You could argue that those men are doing it for the same reason, just directed inwardly.

Nothing like this, but quite disturbing: I was sitting with some friends at the pub chatting. A girl we know arrived and immediately demanded my seat because it was a comfier one. I said no. She demanded, and demanded, and demanded. She literally would not give up, despite having no claim to the seat or anything (like if she'd been sitting there and just nipped to the loo which is fair enough). This obviously raised my hackles so I dug in, but it was making things really awkward and now all atte…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
