But why? Why not go alone or with old friends? It's almost always better and more interesting.

I don't go on dates anymore (not in this sense at least, because I'm married), but I guess it comes down to what a "bad date" means to you. My interests are rarely as interesting to other people as they are to me, so I would rather go alone, or with someone who actually likes it. Too often new people acquaintances want to be nice, and they agree to go where I want to go, but if they don't actually enjoy it, it shows.

Dating is boring at best, and the fact that people set all these ridiculous rules is a sign that they agree. "I won't like you if you don't pay", "you need to have life/dating experience", "if you are not on level x or above, you need to convince me that I'm not wasting my time", etc. Why go on dates, if it's just a performance?

Depends on how much you want to get drinks with her. If you really want it, remind her. If it's not that important to you, tell her that her phone should have an alarm or a calendar app somewhere. That's what I tell people who ask me to remind them. Somehow I still have friends.

What did these women say is the reason they thought it's bad, and what did you reply? I don't think it's necessarily wrong, but I prefer being direct. I have too many experiences of men who wanted to walk me home, without clearly expressing their wishes. We would walk for a while, then the man would make a move, I would say no, and then he got angry and rude because he "wasted his time and lost his chances for the night". Perhaps dating has changed since, but I believe that at least some women h…

Empathy is usually a good thing, trying to understand other people is always beneficial. However, gender is only one of our dimensions, and focusing too much on that might also lead us to stray. For example, based on some of the conversations on this sub, I think that my culture affects me at least as much as my gender does. There are so many things that go over my head, hah.

It's interesting to read posts like this. I don't think the aspects listed here are important. A wealthy, good looking man could still be an average joe in my eyes. Why would I care about his experience in dating and "life", I want to be with him and have shared experiences? I don't see why these things would automatically bring any value or joy. I think you should stick to the standards you find important. It's just a reality that there can only be a limited amount of rich, non-average looking …

Be kind to other people. You can say whatever you want, but if you only complain about other people or treat them badly, I'm really not interested, and I'm going to warn my friends about you. Speak good things about other people, let your good character show. These things are surprisingly easy to catch.

What are we risking? Genuinely asking. I don't think I would need to be paid in food for going out with a guy, but I might be missing something. Are the dates generally so bad or what?

Is there a need for a rule? If there is, I would say the one who invites, pays. If neither made a clear invitation, one pays for their own. I think 50/50 is problematic, because people rarely order the exact same thing. Some friends like to do it, and I dislike it passionately.

I agree with most of your arguments, but I can't come to same conclusions. That behaviour is a bit selfish, but it doesn't make anyone a low value human in any front. However, if that's your boundary when it comes to finding someone, you're absolutely entitled to keep it that way. This question is probably more relevant to someone who dates more than I got to do, but I think who invites the other person, pays. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if someone didn't do that, but I like to pay when…

As much as I have been daydreaming about a shared pregnancy between both parties involved, it's not going to happen. So there's always going to be a disadvantage for someone, and it's essentially biological. Being responsible for something you have actually done (getting someone pregnant), no matter how unwanted it is, is not unfair or a societal disadvantage. How it's organised might be. How much money, for what purpose, when, why, how, these are all choices that can go wrong, and they might tu…

As you list in your post, there are many variables one might consider to answer this question. Which is why I find that there isn't one perfect answer, but several answers depending on the focus you take. Still, interesting question. The lifestyle you describe here is unfamiliar to me, and I don't believe that it's the most common in my country (Finland). I'm also not super aware of the situation in USA, so I hope you forgive me for straying off topic a little bit, as I will focus on my home cou…

shared values and goals, similar ideas of time management, complementing temperaments, mutual attraction his confidence, humour, looks (smile, posture, shoulders, hair), his ambition and work ethics, ability to have an interesting conversation, the fact that we met at my childhood friend's birthday party (who immediately thought that we were a match made in heaven) and that my other childhood friend was impressed by him he's kind, hard-working, intelligent, curious and prioritises his family ove…
