Thanks, man. Yeah, I’m glad I posted here. It sounds like my fears of losing more by negotiating harder are unfounded.

Totally understand. We separated at the start of last year so there’s some stuff that’s “too late”. I moved out at her request—I needed it, too. Alternative would have been her taking the kids and moving out and/or having to battle to get the kids to stay and I didn’t want that for the kids. Maybe was the wrong choice, but from what I’ve heard kids are going to sense the fighting and conflict and the route we’ve taken so far has minimized that for them. My four year old today asked why we had tw…

Having things fixed as much as possible is one of my desired outcomes. I think getting a windfall from business/financial success is a spouse thing, not a ex-spouse thing. Sounds like the general consensus is I’m starting too far in giving away too much / financial windfall as-is, so I’m gonna be getting more expert advice before making any moves, here.

I appreciate all the advice and am starting to reconsider several aspects here. Thank you.

From the IRS: “Generally, alimony or separate maintenance payments are deductible by the payer spouse and includible in the recipient spouse's income if paid under a divorce or separation agreement executed before 2019. You can't deduct alimony or separate maintenance payments made under a divorce or separation agreement executed after 2018.” We have discussed who claims them and can come up with a workable plan. We’d have a clause that if we can’t agree, we’d go to even/odd year turns. I think …

Good questions/comments. 1 - her assets will be an SUV, the house, and $30k of cash. The cash may fund some schooling she wants to do. The SUV will depreciate to nothing. The house will be the main asset that will appreciate and could help fund her eventual retirement. She'll have to work to support herself as the kids get older. 2 - I used my state's calculator inputting my gross income and imputing income according to what she can make with her current certifications but no job experience. Als…

I guess I’m more worried about what she’d be able to obtain via a legal process versus us being agreeable here. Feels like me keeping a bit over half on my after tax income while she has 2x as many days with the kids is possibly a good deal for me…? I guess I came here because I don’t know what is considered reasonable and what a judge would choose if it got to that point. My understanding is judges move fast and it can be a bit of a roll of the dice there. Yeah, she gets a lot of money. I guess…

It does. My value was obtained using the state’s online calculator.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
