Being alone is awful. Oddly enough, I would prefer to be alone when my family was around. Not in a mean way. I just wasn't engaged. The noise, their presence was all I needed. I too am alone. My family is not close (proximity or by relationship) to me. Friends are few and to be fair, I've all but cut them out of my life during my marriage. Not by design, but by home life and work load. Nevertheless I've always been a bit of an introvert and unloading my troubles and problems on others always feels unnatural to me. Growing up I had a friend who's father killed himself. He never got past it. Suicide only passes the pain to the ones you've left behind. I too suffer from depression, self doubt. I only know I never want my children to have to bare the weight of my passing if I can control it. I have no money. I will soon have no home. No family to come home to, and no one to come home to me.
