Yes, but think about the hurt feelings of all the members of this subreddit. How will they carry on knowing that nonconventional families not only exist, but are also recognized by the government? Blasphemy!

It's a subreddit full of people who do have a valid point but they completely fail to form a functional group with a sensible statement. It's absolutely hilarious to see people here either support or condemn LGBT depending on whether it suits them and then act bewildered that nobody takes them seriously

How do you deal with loneliness? Loneliness can also be liberating at times. Sometimes the only way not to lose is not to play the game. You can just do bare minimum that the society expects from you, and not care about anything else.

In female sports prizes and prestige are low which means that there's little incentive to become professional sportswomen which means that professional sportswomen aren't as good as sportsmen which means that the shows are boring which means that nobody watches them which means that advertisers don't want to sponsor expensive events, which means that prizes and prestige are low, and the cycle is complete. Same reason why nobody goes to rugby matches in continental Europe or why football (the one…

Let me offer you some perspective as a gay man. Gay dating is a bit different, but at the same time very similar. I am a man with pros and cons, like many of us. In certain areas I am average, in certain areas I am above average, in certain areas I am below average. I mostly have my shit together. I have a job that I like, the job allows me to have a lifestyle that I want, so I guess I am a functional member of the society. I'd love to be in a relationship. Like most of us, I have sex drive and …

but curiously, only 1/3 of the population will reproduce. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Nowadays a kid isn't free labor, but a huge burden, both financial and emotional. I used to want kids "somewhere in the future", but then I saw people become parents, and it just doesn't sound like a good deal.

but it feels a bit like we're all playing the fiddle while Rome burns Because that's what's happening. But it's really difficult to come up with a solution, because it's not about "this gender good that gender bad", but rather about finding a new way to organize the society. Traditional families don't fulfill their roles anymore, but we don't have anything new in sight.

You're being overdramatic. In your example you rely on the fact that doctors use words "hyperthermia" and "hypothermia" in order to describe states that widely considered to be equally undesirable, and then you twist that into a comparison with a different pair of words. More fitting example would be "inflation" and "deflation". Today, most economists favour a low and steady rate of inflation. Economists generally believe that a sudden deflationary shock is a problem (...) Deflation may also agg…

Because men are plain bad at presenting their cause (quality posts here are rare, most content is just incoherent rambling inside an echo chamber "women bad"), they often fall for obvious baits, and they often start picking fights with other groups (men support LGBT or not depending on whether it's useful at given moment or not). Meanwhile women create more elaborate, united campaigns regarding their problems, support their causes using valid statistics and logical thinking (of course a lot of t…

Most of men's rights activists also happen to be heavily leaning towards the right, which want to limit the rights of LGBT people. A few days ago I had a very heated debate over here because, turns out, "trans people should be able to get a sex change if they wish to" is a very controversial statement. Feminists at least don't openly oppose the basic human rights of LGBT people, so yeah. Even in this sub we have lots of "I'm not against gay rights, BUT..."

By the way, literally none of the drugs approved by FDA or EMA have been in trials for as long as you want sex change operation to be. So either you have to explain why you want sex change to have much stricter requirements than other treatments, or we're arguing about the wrong thing because your problem isn't with sex change, but rather that the requirements for treatment approval are too loose, and virtually all currently used medicine is, by your definition, considered usafe.

If you want to argue we took a calculated risk to avoid catastrophe, ok. Yes, that's my point. That is NOT the situation with trans issues. Even remotely. Why? From their point of view it is. And from the point of view of relatives of those trans people who do commit suicide. That's actually a perfect example of why you don't rush to treatment. If 100M people have an emergent side-effect in 10 years, then yes we made the wrong decision. Yeah it would've been better to just let people die or let them go though the disease naturally, leaving more people with long-term negative effects of the illness. Not mentioning the devastating effects on the economy, which would've led to even more deaths because of lack of medical resources. Great thinking. Suicidal ideation is a …

then early onset dysphoria fixes its self in over 80% of cases (up to mid 90% of cases). This is why you can't just show up "hello, one vagina please, can you make it before the weekend?", but rather there are lots of hoops you need to jump through, which means that only determined people actually get to the phase where they make irreversible decisions.

Many people have died waiting for treatment because it is objectively better to risk a few than to risk many. This argument doesn't make sense because I don't see how is dying from disease better than dying from side effects of medicine. Also, if vast majority of individuals are happy with their treatment a few years after it's complete, then it's entirely reasonable to make conclusions about its effectiveness, even if we don't have 100% accuracy. Want another perfect example of how rush to trea…

Of course, scientists do make mistakes, but don't you think that lobotomy and sex change are too different to compare? Also, this argument "we can't see long-term effects" is pretty stupid because you can use it to discredit literally any treatment because nobody will run 60-year-long trials because 1. by the time those trials finish the treatment will be obsolete 2. there are people who need help here and now and they cannot wait 60 years. At some point doctors and patients agree that their sit…

I completely don't understand the outrage here. Many couples have the problem that splitting duties 50/50 is ineffective, and it makes more sense for one person to take over certain duties while the other person takes other duties (for example, man earns money woman raises the kids). The issue is, when two people do two different types of tasks, it's very easy for them not to appreciate the other person's work. Husband thinks that the woman is just sitting at home while in actuality she's busy h…

One can certainly argue she gave up earning potential and career advancement to be a housewife and that should be rightly be recognized, but what she gave up wasn’t anywhere near equal to his income and the value of her domestic labor was also notably less. No. The argument is that if you marry someone, you should see that person as equal to you, and it's up to you two to organize the marriage in such a way that both parties contribute equally, whether it's material goods or something else. It's entirely reasonable to say that their personalities are much simpler, and most specimens behave exactly the same because they have like one or two types of resources. The central issue is the opportunity cost In case of a divorce, a man with a career just continues on his career. A housewife is basically doomed to live off benefits. If you don't have a single thing on your resume and you're in your late forties, you're fucked. I feel like comments here completely miss the perspective of the woman and solely focus on the fact that the dude needs to pay money.
