I'm dating my girlfriend now because I stopped her and ask for directions. Except I wasn't really even trying to pick her up, it just sort of happened so YES. If you have to ask this questions, I wouldn't try to go with the cold approach. Making up an excuse works a lot better if you are nervous at all.
