The goal isn't to have a long conversation, it's to get her out in person. The starter conversation is for you to make a sales pitch and show her you're a funny interesting guy/ whatever your image is. Tinder is always about looks and perceived status. You simply can't hold them to the same standards as yourself. Put yourself into their shoes: You open up tinder and there are 25 messages waiting for you from good looking guys. It's so hard to keep up with because most of them reply instantly and they try really hard to get your attention. So chatting becomes a chore and it's so hard to think of ways to continue a conversation with all that going on. Guys should just do everything anyway right?
