It kind of does and kind of doesn't. Culture was different then, and women had less "choice" in men without internet. They tended to stay with their husbands for financial reasons and didn't divorce as much...But on the other hand as someone previously mentioned, they definitely play up the "im an old lady help me" card. I believe women in the past weren't AS AWALT as now, but I think that's only because of a lack of resources to do so and cultural difference.
