Those are exceptions that prove the rule. The fact that society, that common people, hear stories of that and are horrified, the fact that we punish those things so harshly, are proof of the fact. The mantra of "only women, children, and animals are loved unconditionally" doesn't mean they are loved unconditionally by everyone, it just means that they are capable of receiving that kind of love by someone.
