20	Does this qualify? And you get penalized for being successful. My ex is married, and we split 50/50 custody, and I STILL pay about $16K a year in child support. My income now also sets the precedent for how much I could make, so even if I take a lower paying job, they’ll impute my historical earnings so I pay the same amount. Since I make five times what she does, that means I’m responsible for five times more of the expenses of raising the children. Even taking into account 50/50 parenting time, they add the two incomes together and use a table to calculate cost burden.
