I like the way the department handled it. I'm not sure they should have put them back on duty. But the training program makes it clear that they aren't going to compromise their standards.

This is a leading question and therefor poor form in a respectable discussion. However, I'm feeling fairly calm so I can answer your question - with: 1) In order to prove that feminists made this law, you'd have to prove that the legislature is feminist and/or being lobbied by feminists. then you coud prove that those feminists were morons and/or vindictive misandrists. 2) many people that don't call themselves feminists engage in identical "equality by vengeance". Also, narcissists are literall…

I'm a feminist, and I call it 'equality by vengeance" = being equally shitty to men as the 50s were to women.

Hi feminist here, I hate laws like this. if they want it to be equal, the law should give a bonus to parents who chose to stay home with their kids. This way stay at home fathers could benefit too, and it could help men feel more comfortable adopting the home life without worrying as much about their financial viability. Laws like this just perpetuate old stereotypes that women are the only caregivers, and are shortsighted Band-Aids that don't solve the problem at all. Edit: They could also give…

Yes. But only by penetration. In the US anyway.

You totally need a sarcasm tag, or else I'd try to explain the point I thought he missed. Sarcasm doesn't carry well in text without the tag.

To point 1: The 'MRAs' that you speak of might be the equivalent of the 'berta lovejoy' style accounts. I just label those sorts of people as Narcissists. and don't even bother with the rest. I have learned to accept whatever label a person gives themselves, simply because that's a founding concept of autonomy which is a founding concept needed for consent. When I encounter an account like this, If I feel up to engaging with someone like this, I treat them like a human, and stick to my argument.…

I can't like this enough. I'm a feminist, and I get so tired of how oblivious feminists are to men's issues. I'm not saying I'm feminist Jesus or anything. It's just that I've noticed feminists say things like this quote from eve ensler. (Interviewer) But there are also men who do care. (EE) Oh, yes. There are a lot of good men. There are thousands of men in the V-Day movement doing really good work –we just need more of them. Where are the good men? Why aren’t they standing up? Aren’t they outr…
/r/MensRights31/01/15 06:21 AM

You should see the MRAs we get in feminist spaces (I'm a feminist). Not to mention all rape threats and death threats are attributed to MRAs. Pretty much every feminist thinks that anyone that isn't 100% capable of toeing the feminist line is an MRA troll waiting to spring some horrible trap on them (not unlike how fearful people are that this article is a false flag). I don't even have to imagine how much it sucks for you guys to have your movement stereotyped so, because those trolls that wand…

What if it's just a collective brainwashing? It's not women or men, its a concentrated force from birth that makes men and women think they have to be these terrible stereotypes and then both women and men feel unsatisfied because they are presenting false fronts, only to be rejected because no one thinks anyone feels sincere enough!?! Gasp I blame scheming powerful people most likely ones with money.

and this is why we don't operate under stereotypes ever. Not even when we think they're appropriate, because stereotypes are frequently wrong.

Good catch. I argue that they're both issues. To re-use an overused cliche, two sides of the same coin. Which is why we need both MRA and FRA for there to be true equality.

I generally think of a slap on the wrist as probation, when prison is warranted. 6 years, might not be as long as some may want for her, but six years is still a substantial chunk of time. I don't honestly believe that the time will in any way change her behavior, but she should now be banned from taking care of children.

...that's just fascinating. I've heard from some women that it was through feminism that they began to understand their own humanity, and it was through feminism that they began to understand the way gender stereotypes affect men. Some women get stuck thinking of men as the enemy, but there are plenty of feminists sites that do not. If you believe in only one type of feminism, you are the one that does not understand.

Also, I argue that circumcision is bad for sexually transmitted diseases because of statistics like these. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23514832 Multivariate findings supported the conclusion that intact men may use condoms more frequently. I can only speculate on why circumcised men use condoms more but if they do, then it's better for everyone to actually use legitimate protection, rather than encourage more skin-to-skin contact.

So, the one feminist you know is representative of all feminists? That's scientific /sarcasm. I've learned never to listen to the "most outspoken" of any group. The most outspoken church? Westboro Baptist, The most outspoken feminists? Same - there are some shitty feminists out there but if you let that blind you to the diversity in the feminism movement, it's your loss. It's the thoughtful people from every group that you want to find, and those are the quiet, hard-to-find people. However, they…

I'm a feminist first and a masculinist second, I'm just at the beginning of educating myself about masculinism, and it's difficult to find well-researched articles that aren't pedantic or angry. I would be interested in seeing more actually researched articles. I'm tired of people picking on chivalry as if feminists came up with it, because it was around since before feminism. I'd love to see something that offers complete portraits of men that break gender stereotypes. It's easy to find the neg…

The problem with the MRM right now is that Feminists can smell from miles away that it's about men and not women. It fucking scares the shit out them. I would like to correct this line, to "It's about men to the exclusion and degradation of women" where as feminism clearly is about women but makes an effort to be inclusive toward men.
/r/MensRights07/04/14 09:09 PM

"Co-option is not inclusiveness." Yes, I agree completely. However, for your second point - Women's rights and Men's rights are routinely ignored every single day. Some issues cover both gender like raising the minimum wage. Some disproportionately affect one side like work place safety and birth control. We need to see the world from every perspective. I believe with patience, both movements could work in harmony.

I would argue that our primary focus needs to be on men in the short term. Specifically helping men to undo the damage of all those years of being told to bottle up their emotions. If men can't emote, they can't relate, if they can't relate, all hope for equality is doomed.

I envision the MRM and Feminist movement coming together with a period of getting to know each other. first by recognizing what the movements both already acknowledge needs to happen, and secondly by acknowledging some of the topics that each side focuses on more due to their unique perspective. Similarities: Talking about male rape victims: Feminsts (at least the professional ones) will talk about male rape victims as a way to explain to others that rape isn't just about sex. It's about power. …

being an egalitarian, I would argue that the focus should be on both the fact that we view men's sexuality negatively AND also that we over sexualize women. There's space in my heart for feminism and masculinism.

the Feminists I know are against infant circumcision. If the Jews want to circumcise people, they are going to have to get informed consent.

I was hoping to read a critical analysis of the questions that were used to determine that one in five number. To say that women go back to have sex with the people that raped them could mean many things. People frequently feel guilt for things that weren't their fault, like when their parents die from an old-age related disease. So, a more critical analysis would be more effective in proving the case than anecdotes about how some girls like sex when they get drunk.

Narcissists/sociopaths always freak me out, whether they're male or female.

I always hate these because they assume that one supersedes the other. We should tell both girls and boys to be careful of strangers and friends. We should teach both about consent. Acting like the all of the problem resides solely on one side is ridiculous.

This isn't just a disrespect for and a fear of men, but also disregard for minorities. My guess if the dude was white, there wouldn't have been an issue. Stereotypes, I hate them. All of them.

I'd say that this new generation isn't raised without fathers, it's raised without parents. With commuting and both parents working more often, they are raised by other children. No mothers, no fathers. When a parent only sees his/her children a few hours a day, can that really be called parenting?

I would argue that that doesn't mean that feminism is bad, but it would mean that feminism without an equivalent masculinism is bad. You know, if we're going for equality, let's take this shit all the way.

This is terrible. There is no such thing as reverse sexism because it's all sexism. Reverse sexism is equality. And... the rest... just no.

Here's another article, and the reasons why. It's because women get pregnant. So in essence, it's because we acknowledged that women are different. http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2010/07/drug_problem.1.html But since wild speculation seems to be the in thing (for 60 minutes and for redditors), I'm going to ignore all that and believe what makes me happy anyway.

From what I can tell the fourth wave has been happening in the last few years. Since it's still very young, it lacks some definition, but in essence it's angrier at people that try to tale away abortion and women's rights. I'm pretty sure intersectional feminism is also a part of it, which focuses on including everyone in the feminist movement. There are some pretty racist sides to feminism that tried to exclude women of color, and LGBTQ groups. The intersectional feminism group includes just ab…
