Feminism is not synonymous with equality. Egalitarianism is about equality. Feminists are egalitarians who believe that women are oppressed and men are privileged. I am not a feminist because I do not accept that premise. Even though I agree with feminists that gender equality is a good thing, I don't agree that exclusively focusing on women's issues and downplaying men's issues is the best way to achieve it.

I used to be a feminist. Most of the people I knew were feminists, and I wasn't exposed to any anti-feminist ideas, so I adopted the ideology without thinking about it too much. I thought that feminism was synonymous with equality, and dismissed any instances of bias against men with "actually, that's because of the patriarchy." Over time I realised that most of my beliefs about gender issues were illogical and inconsistent, so I stopped being a feminist. There are definitely some male feminists…

They view men as responsible for the actions of all other men. If you are assaulted by a man, it's basically your fault because you're also a man and all men are the same.

TERFs are radical feminists who believe that all men are violent rapists. Their hatred of trans women is just an extension of their hatred for men. I can't think of a single opinion that TERFs and the men's rights movement have in common. Trying to ally with them would be completely futile. They are being persecuted by feminists TERFs are feminists. That's what the "F" stands for.
