Most of this is very familiar to the people on this sub. It fucking sucks but try and think of the benefits. I cried and moaned that I lost everything until a friend pointed out I was debt-free. This has freed you to reinvent yourself however you want. Maybe that high-paying stressful job was to pay the family bills. Maybe go on work sabbatical for 6 months and travel the world. Maybe you want to be a golf caddy for a season then make wine in CA wine country for a batch or two. Plenty of jobs pr…

You could argue the kid should stay with you until she gets the house in a livable condition. You will also need for her to pay you child support during this time. You can also request an audit of her bank accounts since you are paying her money to have this kind of stuff taken care of. When you find proof of her buying unnecessary shit (because you will), you will have enough proof to request a review of alimony payments and have them reduced dramatically or gotten rid of. You also have an argu…

“Not even close to being worth the risk” What risk are you talking about? The only power anyone has over you is what you give them. You can decide not to give them any power. I think you should date casually just to try it out and see what it’s like.

Wow…I could have written this. I’m in the exact same situation with 18 years of marriage and being separated for a year and a half. I have the exact same questions and opinions you do. It’s both comforting and a little creepy to know there are other people in the EXACT same situation. After about a year of going through the 7 stages of grief, I realized she has been a really shitty wife for a very long time. The main issue is exactly what you experienced as well. She was never “on my team” to he…

Ugh…I’m sorry you have to go through this. I’m lucky that my STBX is not looking for a replacement anytime soon. It would make things so much worse. She has had zero sex drive since upping her antidepressants a year ago.

Haha! When I said it was hard to read I meant that it was painful to read because it relates to my situation so well. Your English is perfect.

God this was tough to read but definitely something I needed to see. I prefer the direct and 100% honest answers even though they sting at first. Once accepted, they tend to be my reality building blocks. I have also had these moments of optimism about my pending divorce, but I think it’s normal and they are usually rooted in reality and short-lived. Other hard to swallow things: -She doesn’t love you anymore -You don’t make her happy -She has made up her mind and there is nothing you can do to …

I raised (and paid for) another man’s kid since she was about 6. Her mother and I bought a house together and we all moved in. I love her like my own and she considers me her real Dad. She is 23 now and finishing a Master’s degree at John Hopkins, lives with her BF who is a really great guy and treats her like royalty, and I am so proud of the strong, intelligent, funny, beautiful woman she has become. Her bio dad was a real POS deadbeat dad and died a few years ago from COVID and Tuberculosis. …

Does she have any idea the way she disrespects you is so toxic you want a divorce? This sounds like straight-up mental and emotional abuse. Was she like this from the beginning? How can this kind of behavior stay hidden? There must have been some early red flags right? Depending on where you live, if you can prove that she is mentally and emotionally abusive and has ruined the marriage, you might not have to give her anything. In fact, it could be argued she shouldn't be around your kid because …

No shit. Even if it was just to the YMCA staff, you could get both of them kicked out. Do you think they want some nasty cheaters fucking all over their family gym? Explain

Holy shit. I needed to hear this. Thank you for the hard truth. It's the only way my brain can't find a way to rationalize around something it doesn't want to hear. Keep it coming.

Try not to think like “what is meant to be”, and start thinking about what you want your life to look like without her. What are the things that drive you mad about her? What if your new wife/gf wasn't like that? I'm in the same boat as you guys and it has been the hardest thing in my life so far dealing with the finality that I can't change her mind. Now I'm trying to look at the bright side of upgrading to someone younger, more sex drive, more optimistic, and maybe understands me better. There…

Do you think this is a realistic option?!? My STBX has said that I am the only thing wrong with her life and she has been trying to make it work and be happy since we bought a house and moved in together 17 years ago, which was about 9 months after we started dating. I don’t believe this at all and really feel like she is using me as a scapegoat but just the fact that she can say that tells me she has no respect for me. I'm not sure there is any coming back from that.

Google “walk away wife syndrome”. This entire situation has very little to do with you so don't take it personally.

I'm in the exact same situation except one kid is in college and the other is 9. I'm only a few months ahead of you in the process but she has already served me divorce papers. The biggest things that have helped me so far are getting a therapist and finding the right friends and family who are equipped to be my emotional support. About a month ago our sailing crew started meeting back up for the summer racing season. I don’t see these guys much in the winter so I told them what was going on. Th…
