This post isn't yours though, is it? The original.

I don't particularly mind this either. She's not even saying most men are unattractive, she's saying that she personally finds most men unattractive. And that's fine. We all have different tastes. It's not like I'm personally attracted to every woman I come across.

I definitely wish I could be as unfeeling as she thinks all men are. I had a casual relationship last year and I was the one who got a bit attached, not her. That's when I realized I'd rather be celibate than have sex for the sake of having it. It sucks, but that's part of the human experience. I haven't had the best time dating, and I admit it's made me a bit jaded. I'm not going to project that onto women as a whole, though. That's not fair to the people who haven't hurt me. It's my resposibil…

I'm very happy to see this reminder. The fact that this sub wants to avoid generalizing language is what I like the most about it. We need to do a better job of calling that out when it happens.

A lot of the arguments against it sound a lot like the arguments against abortion, even to the point where I've seen people suggest abstinence if they want to avoid the responsibility of having a child. It's pretty weird. Being more or less in favor of paper abortions is probably the most controversial opinion I hold, and it's not something I tend to discuss too often.

It's really weird. They act as if women exclusively date "good" men, and the only way for a man to prove his worth is to be with a woman. It arguably plays into this notion that women are things to be won, which is exactly what "incels" think. They'll tell you that women are people, while simultaneously trying to convince you that women are bloodhounds with a sixth sense for good and bad men. Women are indeed people, and part of being human is being fallible. Plenty of misogynistic men have wive…

I think the best thing you can do is stop caring what other people think. Stop basing your value on other people's ideals. Decide who you want to be and try your best to become that person. You're also free to change your mind later. It's never too late until you're six feet under. If your idea of being “high value” is having financial success, then strive for that. If all you really want is a job that pays the bills and leaves you time for hobbies, passions, and loves once, then strive for that…

I think that's where personal accountability comes into play. If I notice myself projecting the opinions of a few women (or whoever) onto everyone else, that's a sign I need to step back for a while. Basically, I need to go touch some grass. It's very easy to get stuck in a negativity spiral, so it's important to gain some perspective every once in a while, and maybe look at all the women who have positive things to say about the men in their lives.

Exactly. “Venting” isn't a valid excuse for men to be misogynistic and generalize about women, and it shouldn't be an excuse for women to do the same to men. Worse yet is when people tell you that there's no reason to be offended unless it applies to you. I used to buy into that due to a lot internalized self-loathing for being born the more evil of the two sexes, but I don't put up with it anymore.

Were they even actually banned? The sub is still there. As I recall it they simply migrated elsewhere.

I prefer things to be 50/50. I don't need things to be split on the dime, but if a woman offers to pay or split the bill, or gets the second round, then she's showing me she's just as interested in getting to know me as I'm her. It also signals to me that she doesn't expect me to stick to traditional gender norms, which is very important to me. I like treating people to things, but when it's expected of me just because I'm a man I'm very hesitant. I also need to get to the point where I know and…

Man, I wish I could give you a hug. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm happy to see you got a lot of supportive comments. Voices like yours need to be heard, and I'm glad you chose to use despite having been dismissed in the past. That takes a lot of strength.

Absolutely. That was more or less the point I was trying to get across. I think unfiltered venting has its place. Like somebody else said in response to my comment, that place is probably best reserved amongst close friends, where people can more easily draw you back from the pits of negativity and bigotry. Just look at any mental health subreddit. Most of those places are designed to let people vent, but inevitably it becomes a self-feeding machine, where people are left validating each other w…

It's really no different than interjecting with “women aren't a monolith” when a man is venting and making sweeping generalizations about women. It's a good thing, and they're right. That kind of black and white thinking is easy to fall into, but it's neither healthy nor helpful. I think there's a time and place for that kind of venting, and sometimes it's just better to give people the space to let off some steam, but I think it's too tempting to give into those generalizations and make them ab…

It's so stupid. Talking about male victims of domestic abuse isn't taking away form the conversation—it's adding to it. Even if there is gender disparity when it comes to domestic abuse—which there isn't—the minority should still have a voice. Even if they only make up 10%. Even if the roles were reversed and women were in the minority, their voice should still be heard. As far as we know, both sexes experience abuse in roughly equal numbers. The actual number doesn't matter. It doesn't matter w…

You may be lonely, but you're not a loser. Don't be so hard on yourself. There's no shame in longing for an intimate connection and feeling sad you haven't gotten to experience one. Allow yourself to hurt. Don't hide from those feelings. Just make sure you don't get stuck feeling that way. It only leads to bitterness. And never, ever call yourself a loser. That kind of negative self-talk will only do you harm. You may feel like a loser, but something tells me you wouldn't say that about anyone e…

The only thing that matters is you. This last part here is important. At the end of the day, you've got to stay true to who you are, and focus on finding someone who aligns with that. If you're not interested in being sexually dominant, you have to find a woman who's okay with that. If you want to split things financially, you do the same. You're never going to appeal to everyone. It may or may not limit your dating options, but we all have qualities that limit us in that regard. I think being c…

It may very well be a trauma response in some cases. While that makes it understandable, it doesn't make it acceptable. There are healthier ways to cope than to lean into one's traumas. All that does is put you in a perpetual state of bitterness. There are men out there who've faced nothing but trauma from women. While we may be empathetic and understanding toward them, we don't condone their misogyny. At best it's an explanation. It can never be an excuse—in either situation. I can feel for the…

It is. It just took me too long to not give into it and start fighting back, or at least ignoring it. Then again, I've always been a bit of a people pleaser. I'm working on that, though. Fighting misogyny with misandry isn't the way to go. I had a feminist friend who felt similarly. While we disagreed on plenty of things, and she had some weird ideas about men at times, we at least agreed on that.

These women end up sounding exactly like the men they hate. It's kind of ironic, really. Birds of a feather. Twitter (or X, if you will) is a cesspool for this kind of rhetoric. The “If it offends you, you're part of the problem” rhetoric is particularly present on there. I used to buy into that. I wanted to be a good “ally”. But, I've come to realize that their rhetoric is no different than the manosphere misogynists. Hate is hate no matter who holds the weopon.

I suppose one could argue that "not all incels are actually bad" is a hot take that the internet is just not ready for yet and she didn't want to throw her reputation away. But if not now, when? It's definitely not a conversation people are ready to have. I suppose I could fit the description of an “incel”, depending on your definition. If you simply define an incel as someone who craves intimacy, but doesn't have it, it fits. I don't use the label to describe myself. I don't relate to their ide…

I've seen that. There's no winning with some people. I used to feel guilty for developing crushes on friends, and leaving when I felt like I couldn't honestly approach the friendship anymore. It hurt knowing a lot of women seemed to reduce it to “just wanting sex”, or being “entitled”. I think it's just a way for them to deal with the pain of losing a friend. I've never tried to friend my way into somebody's pants. I'm sure people like that exist, but I have a feeling they're in the minority. So…

Being critical of feminism isn't the same as being critical of women. As far as I know, there's even a rule prohibiting making generalizations about women. Of course, I haven't reviewed every single post on that sub, but it seems pretty good so far, and it's refreshing to see a subreddit focused on men's issues that doesn't descend into bashing women for being women (or otherwise engages in self-flaggelation for being born the “bad” sex). If it's not for you, that's fine, but I would love it if …

Yes, I was hesitent to link to that article. Even though they claim to be politically impartial, they definitely seem to have more right-wing leanings. It would be nice if more left-leaning individuals took up these discussions. While it was nice to see so many men object to the way the memo was framed, I was hesitant to take part in the discussion, because it's all too easy to dismiss as a right wing agenda. Sadly, the left has a tendency to shun and push away a lot of young, lost men, by dismi…

I agree that sadly it tends to be right-wing reactionaries who bring up men's issues, which sadly poisons the well. Rather than advocating for men, they're often more interested in being staunchly anti-feminist, which is all too easily dismissed as anti-woman (though, of course, being a feminist isn't synonymous with being a woman). I don't have much to add other than the fact that a year ago, the government agency for equality rebranded all IVP as “Men's violence against women”, even the perpet…

I'm with you. It doesn't really bother me that women want to keep themselves safe. If these groups were all about hanging cheaters out to dry, or keeping women safe from abusive men, I would be more or less fine with them, but I can't help but feel like they devolve into gossip, or petty revenge, far too easily. I also want to belive that sometimes people genuinely can change, and while we should hold people accountable, we've got to allow some room for growth and redemption as well.
