Hypnotic pacing is the first step to get someone into a hypnotic state. (kind of like watching the swinging timepiece and counting down). Once you have paced the person, e.g. "here we are at the cafe, sitting outside in the sunlight, warm sun shining down" you can then push them forward. It establishes a "we are here in this moment" frame and that you are the leader and they are following. This is fundamentally how all hypnosis works.
