Etymologically, the male equivalent of femicide wouldn't be androcide but homocide. The word for killing a man has already been turned into the word for killing anyone. It's considered abnormal and exceptionally evil when a woman is killed.

Idk if we're allowed to say the name of that sub, but I think I know the one you're talking about. Just proof that it was never about advocating for men; it was only ever to get people to shut up about men's rights.

I've never had a problem with trigger warnings, but it upsets me that some things are considered more valid triggers than others in progressive spaces. I hope you're able to find a place where you can express your feelings and experiences openly, and not be criticized or mocked for it.

Yes, it shows that they don't care about hate, they just care who the hate is directed towards.

Read this a while ago and was furious. My biggest concern is it instructs providers to sacrifice patient wellbeing for the sake of a larger social project. So don't treat your male patient in a way that will improve his mental health, treat him in a way such that he can benefit society. That mindset can be incredibly destructive to a person's mental health. In what other area of medicine is it considered acceptable to not put the patient's wellbeing first?

I had a teacher who would routinely punish all of the boys in the class but not the girls. She would also read out everyone's grades to the class and seemed to take pleasure in reading out a poor grade earned by a boy. Now I feel bad knowing she could have been doing that for years and getting away with it. It was at an age where I could tell something unfair was happening, but I had no concept of reporting a teacher to the school administration.

Yeah. What could be accurately described as toxic femininity is usually just called misogyny. I would say toxic masculinity is a subcategory of misandry, but more specifically talking about expectations placed on men.

It's frustrating because some anti-feminists will argue against toxic masculinity by listing positive traits of masculinity, rather than challenging the misandrist assumption that men are responsible for their own social expectations.

My doctor has a misandrist sticker in her office. Something along the lines of "all straight men are trash". I find it incredibly inappropriate to be displaying something like that where it's visible to patients, but I'm afraid to point it out because I don't want to get into an argument with my doctor. If it was a sticker saying something negative about women, it would have already been complained about and removed. But because it's about men and "men are not systemically oppressed" it's consid…

Thank you for pointing out this weird double usage of "toxic masculinity". I've seen people say toxic masculinity is toxic expectations of men by society, and then the very next sentence use toxic masculinity to describe bad male behavior, or describe a man as "being toxicly masculine". I like the definition where it's expectations placed on men, but if I use the phrase "toxic masculinity" I don't want people to think I'm shitting on men. It's like they invented this useful term and then complet…

Men are faced with a river of piranhas, and those progressives are more focused on yelling "don't be afraid to swim" than they are with building a bridge.

This is why I say change has to come from women first. There are men ready to leap at the chance to break gender roles, and they get squashed down for doing so. It's totally unfair to blame men for this situation.

It's easy to ignore part of a problem when you have ideological blinders preventing you from seeing it. For example, "toxic masculinity" is often used as code for "a man expressing saying something a woman doesn't want to hear". Once it is labeled as toxic masculinity, it is now ok to ignore. This makes it possible to blame men for anything and everything.

I'm not a man, but those reasons make Zuko much more of a comfort character for me than Iroh. "Find your own path", "Stay true to your values" and "Forgive yourself" are much more practical lessons for a young person than "be a gentle and wise badass".

The most they will usually say is that it kinda sucks that these double standards exist. It's still seen as too extreme to characterize them as injustices, or to suggest that they are more serious than some complaints feminists raise.

I like how the two options for blaming societal problems on are "men" and "all of society". You can't blame women because that would be misogyny, but you can blame men and that's fine.

I really enjoy Big Joel but I have purposefully avoided those videos. I'm worried that if I watch them it will taint my enjoyment of his other videos. Reading the comments section makes me think the videos will be filled with strawmen. I can handle straight up disagreement, but strawmen send me into a blind rage. On a lighter note I did enjoy his video about twitter and empathy, how we shouldn't expect men to sacrifice their lives to stop a shooter.

"If I have problems with sex or dating, I must accept that it's entirely an individual issue for me to deal with alone, with no social or systemic gender implications whatsoever." "Women getting what they want inherently helps men. I do not need anyone to advocate for my rights." "I have no legitimate interest in my own bodily autonomy. If I am upset by violations of my autonomy, it is a sign that I am whiny or entitled."

Destiny is balanced but in a way that he isn't really saying anything out of the norm. Anything he says about men's issues is something any random MRA could have told you 10 years ago, but people act like he's presenting some revolutionary new idea. I appreciate Alison Tieman's point of view, and I've drawn a lot of my own thinking from her older videos. She and the rest of the Honey Badgers kind of went crazy when Trump started being popular, but they're still mostly correct when they stick str…

Been a long time destiny viewer since the StarCraft days. You're right that he acknowledges double standard and unfair expectations of men, but he doesn't seem to push back on them much. He just says that's how it is, and it might suck for some people, but whatever. The traditional male role works for him personally as a wealthy and sexually successful man, so he has no reason to fight it. I like his content but he's not someone I would go to for interesting conversations about gender. I've beco…

Which one? The second one may vary more from person to person, but the first is almost always true. Maybe I'm biased since I grew up in a liberal area, and maybe there are more negative attitudes towards periods in traditional religious households?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/06/22 11:36 PM

Usually we describe a period as something that is happening to the girl. The girl is a victim. We describe an erection as something a boy is doing. He is the perpetrator. Even though anyone who knows anything about male physiology knows you can't just turn off a boner.

There is a logical reason to have an abortion: to end a pregnancy. People are going to want to end pregnancies regardless of its legality. There is no logical reason to perform a circumcision. Without cultural and religious reasons, there would be no demand for it. Developed countries banned similar procedures for female genitals, and there's no epidemic of secret underground unsafe FGM.

Should I add on "and also woman" onto any statement about helping men out of fear that a hypothetical feminist will see it and think I hate women? This is a subreddit for men's issues and I was talking about helping men. I don't want to do "what about the women" here.

Women are almost always protected in wars. I'm worried about protecting the most vulnerable people.

I'm conflicted about neutral conscription. If women are conscripted, they will almost certainly be in non-combat roles. That leaves more men available to be in combat. If only men are conscripted, men will have to fill those non-combat roles. I'm not sure how it would play out in real life. Whatever option saves the most male lives would be preferable.

As a men's advocate I just hear that and think "Yes men are fragile and that's why we need to help them." Human beings in general are fragile, but the problem is we pretend half of us are not fragile.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates18/03/22 06:54 PM

There's a lot of handwaving and baseless claims thrown around mainly to avoid one simple conclusion: men's mental health is worse because their lives are harder. We are able to make that concession for every other group suffering from bad mental health outcomes, but for whatever reason that principle flies out the window when it comes to men.

Well it's not the anus but specifically the prostate. And I'm not sure it has to do with number of nerve endings, but more that it's a different type of pleasure with a much higher ceiling.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/12/21 03:17 PM

I'm sure you already know this being bi, but you're not completely blocked off from the heights of pleasure when prostate stimulation is a thing. Yeah it's not as convenient, and it's not the same feeling, but it's arguably better than what can be achieved with a penis. It's not a perfect solution, but it offers some hope. I've heard from others that intactivism can help you regain some sense of control, but I just find it emotionally draining when there are so many people who refuse to listen.

And of course if you take issue with the phrasing of "all men" it just means you're one of the men they're talking about. Even if you're not a man.

That seems to be a common theme in FtMtF detransitioners, the idea that becoming a man will automatically grant you a bunch of privileges. Anecdotal I know.

It's the same way an article headline can be provocative or offensive, but if you read the actual article it's not as bad as you thought.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 02:39 PM

That brings up a good point. Someone that actually wants to persuade others, like a street preacher, would never dare say "it's not my job to educate you." They're out there "educating" as many people as they can find.

We have a word for it. "Misandry".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/09/21 12:08 AM

What does Paul Elam say that is particularly bad. I've listened to a bunch of his stuff, and yeah a lot of it is intentionally provocative, but I don't remember there being much I found particularly objectionable. A lot of it is centered around mentally ill, abusive women and what men can do to protect themselves.

Well there was a comment by a moderator saying they were surprised Chuck Derry would be so dismissive of male victims. So either they are lying now, or they were malicious in the past, or they are simply incompetent.

That's kind of the point isn't it? They take all these buzzwords (I would include toxic masculinity in there) that have a legitimate meaning, and use them to advocate a hateful ideology. Then if you try to criticize the hateful ideology, they retreat to defending the legitimate meaning of the buzzword. As long as they continue to use the words this way, they should be treated as the dog whistles they are. You don't win with racists by arguing against the literal meaning of their dog whistles.

Has Menslib gone full mask off yet? This is pretty egregious. I know the really bad responses are getting downvoted, but why did the mods think this AMA was a good idea in the first place? Do they not know what the Duluth model is or do they just not care?

The James Damore thing always makes me angry, because people make it out like he was saying women are inferior engineers. It's a 15 minute read, it's not hard to check for yourself.

There are plenty of other existential crises people worry about. You're allowed to have a conversation about one thing and not mention everything else in the world.

LOL what a resounding endorsement for a men's issues sub. Imagine a subreddit for any other issue where the selling point is they don't think the issue very important.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates21/08/21 11:04 PM

That's a really good explanation, and I've seen that kind of reasoning come from "progressives" (they're not really progressives). It's probably related to the apex fallacy as well, where they assume that all white men have the same opportunities as the white men at the very top of society.

It's always seemed such a strange argument to say "We want to help underprivileged people, there are more underprivileged people in this demographic, so we are going to discriminate in favor of this demographic." You're capturing people that don't need help and missing people that do need help. Why not just directly help underprivileged people?

Feminists do talk about those issues!... for as long as it takes to get the person who brought it up to shut up. Then they go right back to not talking about it.

It really bothers me when people lump all of the "manosphere" (red pill, incels, mgtow, tradcons) into the men's rights label. Like, those groups have nothing to do with men's rights, but people still expect us to answer for their opinions?

I mean it's bad that one gender is granted custody disproportionately more than the other. It's not bad to be considered a caregiver.

Fathers get custody of their children less often because women are seen as natural caregivers, and that's a bad thing I guess.

I'm a trans woman and it makes me feel sick knowing I won't be able to get proper genital reassignment surgery because most of the sensitive tissue was taken away from me at birth. I can only hope for more advances in stem cell research and regenerative medicine.
