Well, a very vocal minority of that group behaved in such a way, that the word took on a different connotation. And now it's an insult. It is what it is. The actual word was created by some college girl in the late 90's, contemplating how lonely she was. I read someone who caught up with her and she's horrified at what the word and the meaning have become. Such is the evolution of words though.

Incels is kinda a term purposely designed to sound like an insult so I'd exercise caution against it. But it's a term that incels themselves have weaponized. They like that it scares people. I don’t think they’re even aware that it’s an abbreviation of “involuntary celibate”. Reddit is the same way. I get called a "boomer" daily. The actual word is from "Baby Boomer" but now reddit just thinks the word means "old." And I'm not a baby boomer anyway. My point is that words change meaning. But one of autism's big symptoms is not being able to understand/notice social cues as well as other groups of people. Right?
