I completely agree with you. However, I don't think the PT test is a good measure of those abilities. The new gender neutral requirements demand that each individual be able to carry a wounded soldier and carry their equipment. They also demand that individuals handling shells as part of their job or tangent to it be able to do so. Testing those skills directly, as they are planning to do, is a much better way of evaluating that then asking someone to do x number of crunches and run x number of …

Marines in all 29 of the MOSs must be able to perform a casualty evacuation... Did you not read the article? Casualty evacuation is considered a necessary skill under the new guidelines. By passing the new standards you will have to meet the minimum standard (they are, by definition, the minimum standard).

Why should that be the case? Physical fitness could express itself differently between sexes. Job requirements do not. If you want to evaluate someones' health, then you look at their body. If you want to evaluate their competence, then you look at their performance.
