OP, have you been in a relationship before and/or intimate ever? It’s not clear if you have been from your post, and your fear of not finding someone gives the impression you have not. Many women have what’s known as “responsive libido”, i.e they will be turned on if a partner they trust initiates but rarely are in the mood to initiate themselves. Men, on the other hand, are more likely to have a libido that causes them to initiate. This discrepancy is the source of a lot of sexual misunderstand…

Yes I came here to say hair accessories! I couldn’t find if op said the exact length of her hair but even chin length bobs can be styled into a half up/half down hairstyle and pinned back with something dainty/sparkly. If op gave a more detailed description of her hair that could be helpful for us to provide more specific advice.

As someone who consumes a lot of romance media (and has lots of friends who consume romance media), your dilemma is not unusual and I've had to counsel several friends through similar issues. We have been conditioned to value the butterflies, the expectation, the passion, blah blah -- in short, the stereotypic things we associate with "romance". Practical aspects of a relationship and compatibility like life goals and lifestyles seem mundane and unromantic in comparison. The friends who have got…

I'm going to tag onto this since I think it's solid advice. Someone once told me that "men divorce women because she's no longer who she used to be, women divorce men because he never became who she wanted him to be" (there are lots of variations on this saying I think). The easiest way to avoid this trap, in my opinion, is to find a partnership where you would be satisfied even if he didn't change very much in 30 years. Now, can men change, especially for a loved one? Sure. Would I hold it as a…

I think it's totally possible, but you'll likely have to set limits that you may not have to set with female friends. Stuff like one on one hangouts, constant texting, etc may be totally unproblematic with female friends but can quickly skew into unclear, romantic territory with guys (especially since men don't tend to do these things with each other).

This sounds like it might be a good topic to discuss with a therapist - they can help you identify thought patterns and behaviors that draw you to people who you know aren’t good for you, and work to replace them with healthier thoughts and habits.

It may help to reframe your perspective on picking up habits - instead of thinking of yourself as a "messy" person who has to force herself to clean up and organize, try thinking of yourself as a neat, tidy person. This helped a lot for me initially, because I'd ask myself, "would a neat person leave dirty clothes on the floor?". The answer is no, and because I wanted to be a neat person, I'd pick my clothes up and put them in the basket. It seems like you're falling back to your "true self" whe…

Have you considered pepper spray (depending on the laws in your area)? It may help reassure you while you take classes or decide whether concealed carry is the right choice for you.

You might find the Japanese concept of joshiryoku interesting. Translated literally, it means "girl power", but it does not have any of the connotations of Western feminism. Instead, "girl power" more accurately refers to a woman's femininity. Someone with a lot of joshiryoku is someone who takes care of herself, is soft spoken, and has good domestic skills. Japanese girls focus very heavily on increasing their perceived joshiryoku as it makes them more appealing as a romantic partner. Here's a …

Back before Covid hit I loved going on dates to places like museums and aquariums, especially when they brought in new or temporary exhibits. It was also fun to dress up for some of the fancier ones like the art museum.

I'm sorry that you're struggling with these feelings. It sounds like you may be dependent on external validation, which is starting to take a toll on your mental health. Do you have access to a therapist? They can help you work out these emotions and identify why you need to be in a relationship to feel like your existence is valid. If not, I would perhaps reach out to friends or family who can offer you positive support.

You say that most girls are “alcohol, boy, and academic obsessed” so you don’t know what to talk about with them. What activities would you be good or interested in talking about? Maybe you can try to find an environment that fosters those conversations. For example, I was trained in classical dance growing up so the first thing I did in college was sign myself up for as many dance groups as I could until I found a group that I meshed well with. It’s also worth reminding yourself that people pic…

Yes, I absolutely understand where many of them are coming from! I don't fault them at all for behaving in a way that keeps them out of trouble. I do think it's important to note that many of my girl friends actively support political trends that also cause the very behavior that they dislike in men.

I agree about your last point re: overbearing women and less masculine men. I'm a college student currently and most of my guy friends are terrified of making the first move in relationships or taking the lead. It's always the girl doing the initiating, which causes a lot of exhaustion and resentment as I feel that many of them want a more proactive partner but don't know how to articulate that without coming off as sexist or demanding.

I am from a non-Western culture where wives frequently move in with their husband’s side of the family. I don’t suggest that you do it if you are already not interested in such a lifestyle. Culturally the mother in law is usually the matriarch of the house and the son is expected to adhere to her rules. Since you’ve made it clear that you want to be the authority figure (completely reasonable) I suspect moving in will lead to a lot of conflict:

Perhaps men don’t care about academic accomplishments in the dating scene, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless for a traditional woman. It’s much easier for a well educated woman to support the educational development of her children. If you are interested in raising intelligent, academically successful children (of either gender, really), it is very valuable to understand the world of academia yourself.

Oh, absolutely! I had a friend who commented that I had "strong older sister vibes" when we met, but now he texts me whenever he needs advice. I agree with the other comments that this isn't a bad quality at all.

I second this, older siblings often have “old people” vibes because of the responsibilities that come with being the first child! I think a lot of it has to do with how seriously one considers the consequences of their actions and other people’s actions. Thinking about it and keeping it in mind is great, but verbalizing it can lead to the perception that you’re less “fun” or “youthful”. Both of those qualities are associated to some degree with spontaneity and recklessness.

I've been using Todoist for several years now, it's just a handy little to-do app where you can create projects and assign priority to tasks. It's pretty straightforward and fuss free, and my friends started commenting on how organized I am after I started using it!
