This is the natural consequence of a lack of class consciousness imo. Both ways. Class antagonisms trump gender 9/10 times.

Left wingers team up with Feminists on the regular. Both fought for workers rights around the world. "For what reason, then, should the woman worker seek a union with the bourgeois feminists? Who, in actual fact, would stand to gain in the event of such an alliance? Certainly not the woman worker." - Alexandra Kollontai To paint the entire Feminist movement as fascist or far-right is just inaccurate and gets in the way of the very real potential for solidarity between men and women looking to si…

This because you view oppressive forces in a mirrored and still fundamentally inadequate way to feminists. Women's movements and men's movements have moved in tandem with incredible results in the past. You bring up shaming men in WW1 ( a recruitment tactic organised by Vice Admiral Charles Penrose) but you say nothing of the women who stood in solidarity to those who conscientiously objected and formed strikes. Nothing of the women and men who, in tandem, demanded representation in 1918.

Clearly, you are a feminist propagandist trying to hijack the MRA movement Like liberal feminism the "MRA" movement is just the other side of the gendered idpol coin. Can it improve things somewhat? Perhaps. But it suffers from the same political weaknesses of feminism as it fails to properly analyse the issues it claims to want to solve and thus falls at the first hurdle. Both of these can be made more constructive when thought about in conjunction with a base of socialist or even broader lefti…

Well you're not convincing me with a vague post about how one singular logo that isn't even original and on top of that the original logo being of a fictional PMC from a video game franchise is fascist. Again, you're conflating the admittedly significant reactionary groups of feminists with the entire concept of women's liberation movements and the vast diversity of political thought therein, most of which would call themselves feminists. You don't have to have this ridiculously hardline opinion…

Sorry but calling feminism far right and recognising the very real reactionary elements of feminism particularly in more mainstream liberal versions are two utterly different things.

Very well written analysis here and I agree with a lot of what you've said. I will say I think you are expecting liberals to engage in material analysis or dialectics which simply will not happen unless they develop robust class consciousness. I will say I am hopeful for this to change, the potential is definitely there.

Whilst I agree some of these ideas are absolutely reactionary, you are forgetting that millions of British men didn't have suffrage simultaneously to British women. The core criticism of bourgeois feminists extends to both men's suffrage and women's suffrage. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the same classist rhetoric of bourgeois men was shared by bourgeois women post 1918 seeing as working class women only gained suffrage a decade later. And a side note mainly to OP: any biologi…

Your equation of Feminism with actual Nazism I find ridiculous to be honest.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/06/25 05:45 PM

If your analysis starts and ends on one issue then sure. For me it does not. You most likely knowingly or not support some pretty catastrophic things, but that does not mean your entire personal outlook is inherently void of any goodness or ability to improve the world. This black and white thinking gets in the way of properly analysing the world.

I'm not talking solely about DV. That's the specific issue you brought up. On other pretty important issues there are quite diverse opinions e.g LGBTQ rights, the capitalist mode of production, imperialism, conscription, gender abolishment, lesbian separatism etc.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/06/25 01:36 PM

Money and power? Yes a capitalist system will inherently incentivise these at the expense of the greater good of humanity. To put all feminists of all political and cultural diversity into the bag of private "advocacy" groups that profit from denial of statistics (absolutely not unique to this particular issue) misses the forest for the trees. As for your last paragraph I'm going to have to reject that as conjecture whilst agreeing that it has gotten people killed.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/06/25 11:47 AM

To be frank your biological deterministic framing is bad too imo. Men's lives revolve around the material, not "destinies". Individual desires are extremely diverse and are shaped by culture and material conditions more than they are by "instinct". Feminists aren't "cheating" or out to blindly destroy men. They have a twisted perception of power structures but they are not the oppressive forces themselves, that is the ruling class.

This is what we are saying the "progressive" prefix is inherently invalid because most feminists uphold the status quo of capitalist class relations, not that feminism is inherently a right wing ideology. The truly "progressive" left is the socialist left broadly. This goes into another reason as to why liberal feminists are closer to right wing conservatives ideologically than to actual left wing politics: they co-opt actual leftist space in the zeitgeist and now we collectively see them as the…

I'd posit that the same self absorbed narcissism that affects the upper echelons of capitalist society is to blame to a greater extent than any cultural structure patriarchal or not for the acceptance of abusive individuals. The issue with feminist theory is not that it points out patriarchal thinking, it's that it uses it as a explanation for absolutely everything at the expense of class analysis, and various other factors for that matter.

That's the thing in recent times this phrase has been whitewashed, it doesn't hold the same implications that it did in the 1970s. However, this is concerning in and of itself as if you bring the genocidal history of the phrase up, it will be actively denied as historical fact (unsurprisingly but here we are). Edit: the phrase was I believe coined by Sally Miller Gearhart in her essay of the same name and was linked heavily with lesbian separatist/TERF movements.

The "the future is female" crowd fairly early on advocated for a reduction in the male population to a maximum of 10% of the total (decimation) but included a caveat that the didn't mean mass murder just eugenics.

This is true but I think that is an issue with liberalism more broadly not necessarily feminism itself. I think we would do well to be open to unity with Marxist Feminists and Anarchist feminists for example, just in the interest of a united front.

Feminism is not inherently pro capitalist. Anti-capitalist feminists do exist they are just a small minority. When the emancipation of the working class is properly considered feminist ideas can be beneficial in the broader fight for equity.

Androcide is actually a fairly common occurrence in cases of genocide and ethnic cleansing. A few examples are the Armenian Genocide, Kurdish Genocide during the Anfal campaigns, Bosnian genocide. Not to mention the biblical "massacre of the innocents" which I think adds to the argument that this is not a new or rare occurrence. I think the crux of the issue is simply that male lives, particularly when talking about widespread killings, are not given the same level of societal value. This is ins…

It was a neo-liberal candidate that used a form of feminism that supports the capitalist status quo. That's the "girlboss" part. Is that why the election went this way? Probably not very impactful. On a more specific note. Feminism has always had reactionary and problematic groups within it. For example some prominent Canadian feminists of the 19th/20th century were staunch eugenicists. On top of the regular bourgeois feminism of that era, there are currently neo-liberal feminists who uphold the capitalist status quo and yet bend identity politics to claim that they are egalitarian in their views. And perhaps we can agree on issues of women's reproductive rights for example, but for me per…

This is the exact type of argument used when social services get slashed to shit and people are complaining about lack of safety nets. It basically boils down to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps". The focus should absolutely be on improving the conditions for all (which necessitates criticisms of current conditions), not trying to crawl yourself out personally. This applies to all social issues.

The current changes in how many men (and women) are entering into relationships or lack thereof is similar to the changes in young people not owning property i.e. their conditions simply don't allow for it in a lot of cases. As I said, popular feminist ideas around patriarchy fall apart very easily. However I don't believe that makes the entire concept fantastical. Ruling class men have absolutely used their power to benefit themselves but also other men through certain legislation (e.g. women cannot divorce their husbands). This is the manifestation of a ruling class putting their self interests first, and it has a direct knock-on effect on working class men and women. Sure there are many other examples of men bein…

My personal perception is that we live in a capitalist oligarchy with patriarchal structures that exist because of that wider power structure not the other way around. So yes a lot of the time "patriarchy" theory falls flat if you examine things from a left economic perspective, particularly when engaging with feminists that often outright uphold the neo-liberal status quo just with a dash of "equality". Feminist examinations of social issues can be quite valuable if they are mixed with a more m…

Mainstream feminists don't call for it, radfems do, and libfems eat it up and regurgitate it. Feminism is not necessarily progressive or left wing, get that in your skull.

They are parroting radfem ideas of eugenics adjecent anti-male rhetoric. E.g. "the future is female" is the androcidal idea that the male population should be lowered and then limited to 10% of what it currently is (5-10% of the global population). In short: radfems are reactionary and fascist adjacent. Treat them accordingly.

The issue is actual solution based discussions have to come after dissipation of anti-progressive rhetoric. This applies to both male advocates who often fall into reactionary ideas particularly in regard to blaming/minimising women's issues and wider right-wing rhetoric, but also to feminists who regularly fall into very similar spirals. TERFs of course are an example but the ideas they hold aren't too dissimilar from wider radfem movements which subsequently make their way into popular feminis…

I've said this before but feminists (often liberal feminists to be specific) seem to struggle with the concept of problematic thoughts and behaviour applying to them particularly in regard to gender roles and societal perceptions of men. Even if I disagree with them on certain issues, a lot of them do have a robust understanding of the intersection of class (kinda), race etc with oppressive structures. Nevertheless they fail to apply this viewpoint onto men's issues because they have (understand…

Because exploitation of the working class is a constant in a capitalist mode of production. The class interests of "men on top" are to maximise their personal wealth, men and women on the "bottom" pay for this. I think applying the theory of gender roles or misandry is missing the forest for the trees at least in this context. Similar to how liberal feminist perspectives neglect class as a cause for exploitation and oppression when talking about how women struggle. Sure, gender roles, misandry, …

I have to bring this up every fucking time people talk about male/female potential for violence. Able-bodied adults are rather equal in their capacity for violence particularly when weapons are involved. Similarly, they are equally vulnerable to said attacks. Men aren't made of Kevlar, and women aren't made of tissue paper. E.g. the power that having a clubbing weapon like say a baseball bat provides is very high regardless of physical strength. From that point the limiting factor will be your t…

Apply leftist theory on top of feminist concepts of oppression and gender roles. I.e. the proletariat are forced to commit crime to survive (some steal for sport, most steal to eat) + men are expected to be providers and/or self sufficient. In my opinion the concept of "emasculation" critically relies on traditional concepts of gender and gender roles. I.e. regardless of one's personal perception of gender, "emasculation" to me refers to the intent of the person acting upon another. If I don't take traditional gender roles seriously, someone has still "emasculated" me if they downplay or insult my ability to meet said gender roles (this inevitably has an effect on my social economy, even if I think it's bullshit). Liberal Feminism is inherently an individualist ideology. Because at their core they are capitalists, as much as they claim to have intersectional views, they still hold the perception of class and wealth that reacts against truly progressive politics. That's not what "unhoused" refers to. Personally I believe the state/community are responsible for housing all people. It is a failure of the state for there to be people without a place to live. "Homeless" implies a level of individual choice in the matter which most left wing people find absurd.

I agree with OP here. The social validation built on these toxic expectations is an empty validation. It self perpetuates the capitalist cultural structures that put us here in the first place. Men should grow past these ideas, but they shouldn't have to do it alone, we collectively should work towards this. I can see why you understood this as a bit guilty of implying men have hyper-agency though. I don't think OP meant it that way.

So, patriarchy theory says that men as a group are creating laws that put themselves in a better position compared to women. Okay, makes sense. Now extend that to ideas about class. If the patriarchy is made up of rich white men, where do the rest of the men stand, and how much leverage do they actually have over the laws that oppress women or themselves for that matter, by all reasonable accounts? God forbid one describes themselves as a nice guy. Here's a concept: one who instantly infers someone calling themselves nice as being a bad person is themselves a judgemental asshole. I'm tired of this ill-conceived perception of "nice guy" as a phrase. It's just a normal fucking phrase! There is no crazy red flag to untangle!

I do not believe that the dark parts of our humanity that relate to desire to harm are particularly different between gender or other factors. If the question was "are humans naturally violent" I'd say yeah we are...as are most apes.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/02/23 04:53 PM

About the kick thing. I think some of this problem is anchored on the idea that because women are generally smaller, and weaker than men, that they aren't the owners of adult human bodies, and the base capacity for violence that comes from that.

People easily self identify as left wing, progressive, and intersectionally aware of issues. Actually exhibiting that in one's politics is another much more complex issue for a number of reasons.

You are conflating natural truths of sexual dimorphism with cultural perceptions of male behaviour and the categories that those behaviours fall into. Characteristics of the human male, and characteristics of men are not one in the same. Exploration of how sexual dimorphism affects behaviour is important, as is recognising the complex social and cultural factors that play a huge part as well.

Sure you're way stronger than her. Lots of men are much stronger than me, but if you take into account all of the factors that can come into play between two humans engaged in violence (ambush, weapons, knowledge, technique of the attacker etc)...in a significant number of circumstances I can fuck them up. This isn't me pretending to be macho I'm simply trying to convey my thoughts on violence. I just don't believe women are that much less capable of causing serious bodily harm than a man outsid…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/10/22 03:30 PM

A weapon absolutely "evens the score" and then some. I take issue with you using the phrase "capacity for violence". That implies that it is impossible for a woman to extend beyond that "capacity". Most women are physically "capable" of doing serious bodily harm to other humans. I'm not arguing that they would, but they are physically capable of doing serious damage to people larger than them, that is a fact of human biology. As I said, women are absolutely less physically strong, that cannot be…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/10/22 06:35 AM

Do you view women as dainty prey animals as opposed to fully grown apes with a fairly high capacity for violence regardless of sexual dimophism. Like...women are weaker than men...but they are still fully grown homo sapiens, they are not helpless at all.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/10/22 05:56 AM
18

I don't buy that at all. Adult humans are strong and capable of serious violence with or without weapons. A lot of strength of unarmed attacks comes from technique rather than muscle mass or bone density. See womens UFC. As to your "significantly harder to injure" comment...human bodies are largely vulnerable in pretty much the same ways. My cranium isn't made out of steel because I'm a man, my abdomen isn't made of kevlar, my bones aren't adamantium.

I wouldn't rush to call that rape. As much as people want to act like consent is a clean yes or no (a lot of the times it is of course) there's so much depth to interactions that although something can be bad and harmful it doesn't necessarily have to equate to a clear violation of someone's autonomy.

You just described a healthy relationship and then retroactively attributed that to being feminist...that's not how it works. Feminism does not and will never have a monopoly on gender equality and discussions of gender equality. I believe in fair division of domestic labour, deconstruction of trad gender roles, bodily autonomy, reproductive rights etc. I do not identify as a feminist.

9 months of pregnancy that is undeniably an infant. However, even that is an argument for safe, legal, and univerally accessible abortions for all. One reason is to remove any risk of complications before it becomes too invasive and arguably inhumane to all parties involved.

The difference being: Jewish people have already been born and hold a tangible life, personality, history, and culture. Embryos hold none of those. The person who is pregnant however, holds all of those examples, thus, their choice overrides anyone elses.

You are seriously misunderstanding what "my body my choice" is referring to. It does not refer to actions that can affect other people. E.g. anti maskers are actively increasing their risk of spreading a respiratory disease, people with assaukt rifles are actively threatening and capable of extreme violence at the drop of a hat. Abortions affect the person who is pregnant first and foremost, particularly their physical health, their right to decide that does not infringe on anyone else...unless …

Could not agree more. It makes my heart bleed. The most visceral example of this was the MensLib moderators sharing of Duluth Model proponents...and then back tracking when the majority of users rightly gave them a licking for it. The entire organisational group of MensLib is anti male, they just pick their battles and try to sow distrust for spaces such as LWMA. Many members of that community are in the right headspace...the moderation holds them back.

Can't say I agree. Working class women had a shitty deal too. "Not working" is what the rich and powerful do. In my opiniom, at its core "believe victims" is good to express for male victims too. It is by nature inclusive of all victims. Whether or not certain types will twist it into "believe women" or how external attitudes treat male victims, the core phrase stays inclusive.

This comes under the problematically polar type of discussion for me. One side says it's completely irrelevant, the other says it's the be-all and end-all. This type of attitude is a large part of the reason I don't feel comfortable in the majority of LBGT+ spaces as a bi man. The complete lack of critical thinking is annoying sure...but when it's something that is so obviously a bad thing and it is brushed aside or even (in this case) celebrated as a net positive. I don't know, I lost hope for these types of people long ago.
/r/EverydayMisandry16/04/22 08:05 AM

That's not the point he was making. You seem fairly reasonable in your assessment here, that's fine and good. The problem lies in how the word incel will be used in the future, it's not about self identification, it's about how young men (not necessarily based on their actions) are identified by their peers.

Yes I'm bi and honestly I have recently become disillusioned with other apparenly left wing spaces after many problematic talking points about men in general and about LGBT+ men specifically. The concept of intersectionality didn't seem to apply to me or many of the men I cared about and that became more and more clear the longer I tried to interact with those spaces. So I'm here. Some stuff I disagree with of course but there's much less of a stranglehold on discussions which I appreciate great…

From my perspective this is why mens issues like this are so frustrating to see discussed most of the time. I would like to think he would get the same support if he was including women's actions in his reasons behind male suicide, but a significant number of other situations has taught me otherwise. Many people are certainly sympathetic towards men...if the context is in a specific spot. My problem with that is it should be heavily extended to so many other contexts.
