Yea I see what you're saying and to an extent I would agree. However, if you're saying that men and women prefer the same type of work, that men aren't more willing to go out on oil rigs or down into caves to mine, then I would disagree. Women have gifts that men aren't as capable of in my opinion, the ability nurture and show compassion come to mind. Men are typically more aggressive and strong, more physically fit. Women are actually more empowered and encouraged today than ever before. There is no patriarchal system, there are now more women in the workforce than ever before. Women are encouraged to go into STEM, to ditch traditional gender roles. That doesn't sound like a partiarchy to me. I disagree, historically women have not wanted jobs in the stem field, have not wanted to work the long hours to provide for their family. I agree with your second statement, yes, both men and women are perfectly capable, absolutely.

I see what you're saying. But why does the gap need to be smaller? If men are better ain STEM fields, why would we want women in them? Not trying to be sexist, of course there are brilliant women, but why would we want to encourage people who don't want to be engineers, to be engineers?

Yes, so basically these are different communities you can be part of, everyone can go into engineering. I just think it's totally unfair that there is an LLC (Living Learning Community) for specifically women in engineering, leaving everyone else out. But you're exactly right.
