1	They are planning this. It's the opposite. The more singles you have, the less resource sharing there is. Two households occupy more space, use more energy and have more 'stuff' than a shared household. Single people, especially those without children, also tend to devote themselves more to work than family and leisure, which is a boon for employers, including merchants. 1	Marriage is a retirement plan for women. For men it is a high maintenance depreciating asset. Going by the article Seattle is a buyer's market for women by a ratio as high as 2 men to every woman.
