It's the opposite. The more singles you have, the less resource sharing there is. Two households occupy more space, use more energy and have more 'stuff' than a shared household. Single people, especially those without children, also tend to devote themselves more to work than family and leisure, which is a boon for employers, including merchants. Going by the article Seattle is a buyer's market for women by a ratio as high as 2 men to every woman. The fewer options a guy has in his day-to-day, the lower his standards get and the more desirable even an average woman (by national standards) becomes.
