I got my wife a “new” car for Valentines Day. Actually, I bought myself a new car and I’m giving my wife my used, hand me down. Still trying to decide if I’ll have my new car delivered to fake her out or not. I guess we will see how well she behaves the next couple of days, and if the surprise she’s been saving all her allowance for is good or not.

Thankfully, she was never in control of the finances. Before, she had access to our joint account and logged and categorized all of our purchases to create a baseline for budgeting during our first year of marriage. I cannot in good conscious pretend like she didn’t work hard and do research and use evidence to back up her suggestions and not just her feelz. Just curious, do you think earning power should correspond to input? She tried asking tonight if she earned more if we could go back to the…

Because men should strive to continuously improve. Women make emotional decisions, not ones rooted in research and logic. AWALT means that even my seemingly logical wife does not make logical decisions. All the hours spent researching credit cards or annuals costs of maintance or reading reviews on refrigerators doesn’t erase that. It’s just a facade.

I allowed her to take the lead, because at the time we were not married and didn’t have combined finances. Our lifestyle was also very different back then, because we worked close to each other. Now, I rarely need to go to the part of two where she works, so carpooling isn’t an option. Plus, she has expressed interest in the past in luxury models, and clearly needs rained in. Luxury cars are unnecessary and not a part of my vision.

Leaders don’t need permission to lead.. The exchange about painting the cabinets is particularly analogous.

There are no issues, outside of my wife wanting to spend more time with me than my mission allows. She’s slowly gotten over it and accepted her new normal. That’s why it was the perfect time to transition the finances. I was able to plan everything out and implement the new system on my schedule, and not in reaction to mismanagement.

The posts that I’ve read frame managing the finances quite differently.

This post, this one, this other one, and this post too all talk about the importance of taking over the finances, regardless of your wife’s capabilites. This ship doesn’t need autopilot quite yet. Maybe I was hasty in taking over the finances, but encouraging input now makes it seem like I’m giving into her feelz on the matter.

I just do not agree with your assessment of the quote and the article. Sounds like she put the seal on his legacy and worked hard to ensure that people remembered the best parts of her husband. MLK was no saint, so I do not imagine that was easy.

I reap the benefits of having a supportive wife every day, and I witnessed a similar dynamic as a child, so that doesn’t seem unrealistic to me. Who am I to judge the truth. I didn’t live through that era with the family.

Actually she states that there would be no MLK Day without her mother, not that there would have been no civil rights movement. Sounds like his wife lobbied for the federal holiday.

I wear suits every day. I’ve found a great suit shop with an in house tailor, which makes things easy. My wife sometimes accompanies me to the suit shop and provides input. She makes more suggestions for the rest of my wardrobe, which I actually find useful. If I need a specific item, she’s pretty good at finding deals. I would imagine it varies. My wife can be very image conscious, and sometimes she tries to transfer that to me. If I don’t like something I just say so and we move on. If you hav…

I lead by not spending money on plastic crap that takes up space in the attic 11 months out of the year. I don’t bow down to a social media princess her needs her tree to look perfect for Instagram. What does decorating for the holidays have to do with leading and demonstrating value? Decorations don’t get you laid.

My wife has never asked, but if she did I would just refuse to decorate. We don’t own a single holiday decoration, unless you consider flying a flag a 4th of July decoration.

I do what I want, when I want. If I don’t want to bang, then I don’t. If she doesn’t like it, the she can leave. If it annoys me enough, then I’ll leave. Everything is easy when you don’t need your wife for anything.

I’ve been having a similar issue with my wife. Manipulation or Comfort Seeking Behavior Basically, my wife wants to spend more time with me and is using sex to make time with her more attractive than time spent working on my mission. When I turn her down knowing she’s trying to manipulate me, she sometimes begs and cries, but I just ignore her an carry on with what I’m focused on.

I make decisions and give directions, I don’t have discussions and negotiate what I’m going to do.

Who negotiates with their wife? That seems like a set up for failure. I’m aware of my wife’s attempts to manipulate me. I find the behavior interesting, but it has no impact on my behavior. I was most interested in getting input on of this was manipulation or a strange take on a comfort test.

Just the two of us, so everything is the same as it was when I was single. I do what I want, when and I want and she can join or not. The idea that she’s trying to manipulate me through positive reinforcement makes me want to spend even less time with her.

Can you elaborate?

I’ve got all those boxes check. Hit the gym 4-6 days a week depending on where I am in my routine and the vast majority of my time not spent at work is spent on setting up my new business. Only way to avoid manipulation would be to stop putting in any work around the house, but I already only help when I want.

Similar situation, minus the kids, but opposite reaction from the wife. I think it comes down to knowing that no woman wants to hear her beta provider call and cry about losing his job (aka her income and provision stream).

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
