Yep. The tests are unreliable. You have to read the literature and do some actual thinking to figure it out, with some common sense. Just because the method of testing for it is not valid does not make it invalid. This is a common trope.

Depends on your personality. My friend used to act like movie stars from the 80s and used cheesy lines, and it worked for him.
