50 Shades of Grey outsold every female fantasy book ever published, and by a significant margin. In 2012, 3 out of the 5 best selling books on Amazon, and 5 out of 10, were women's S&M novels. And that list didn't even include, the first two of the 50 Shades books (they were published in 2011 but did most of their sales in 2012). I wouldn't call that a minority case, although feminists did of course.

As it's said pretty often around here, you should take into account only what women do, not what they say. The 50 Shades of Grey series of books is "bigger than the bible", has sold more than 100 million copies, not counting the millions of free and copied ones, as it was originally published as fan fiction in Twilight fora. It's basically about a very high SMV man that treats a girl like a sexual slave, young girls and housewives bought all the copies of course.
