I think the issue is that at the beginning of a relationship there is always a lot of unknown traps and pitfalls, and getting to know the other person Bipolar is often stereotyped as full on manic vs almost catatonic A lot to deal with if you haven't developed much of relationship with someone, or b) haven't dealt with it before - especially if you don't know what side you are going to get next time you date I can see somebody wanting to give that a hard pass before a first date
