As I see this, you just wanted her to see your arm and have her realise, what you meant with sticking out your ellbow. The slight cough was just to point it out. Probably you simultaneously or shortly afterwards looked down to your arm to have her know? I will have to give it a try, if I get a different (physical) response than I expected, however I also assume this comes off as a little bit insecure (as above mentioned your move was not explicit enough for her to understand).

I also have a few that I would count as IOI: when her pupil enlarges (however this is difficult to tell as it depends also on the lightning) when she plays unconciously with her hair (as /u/RPthrowaway123 mentioned) if she directs her body to yours (which is just a sign of positive reaction to you, not as IOI), but if she leans towards you, I'd take that as IOI.

you have a few possibilities to prevent such things: set your fb wall to private, so that nobody can write anything on it. it forces the other person to send you a pm, so other's won't notice. (Bonus: works also well for birthdays. I always get tired of this shit when I get like 20 posts on my wall meaning nothing. I always try to pick up something, that's just going on in front of you and she also is seeing. If you're the "funny" guy, and anyone creepy walks along, just imitate them (extra badly to point out the weird). So you have something to laugh about and can start "mocking". Ask her what she thinks made this guy look that creepy and try to develop the conversation from this start. Please don't see this as a general avice, it only helps to pass time if anything like weird silence occurs...
