What feminist wants to ban pornography? Not only are all major sects of feminism pro pornography, but most fight for the legalization of prostitution.

Seconded. Who supposedly is giving women all the housework credit? Sitcoms? The couples I know split housework down the middle. If they don't it is quite obvious which person is slacking. Gender is irrelevant. This article is lowest common denominator, boys vs girls, school yard bickering.

I am a post modern feminist. I read and keep up with the current waves of feminist discourse. In my everyday life I strive to keep gender stereotyping to a minimum. The main tenant of feminism that I subscribe to is I am against the discrimination of the other. In many contemporary situations, such as parenting rights, males have become the other. I very often link this article, as I think it is the best description of post modern feminists: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gill…

Your generalizations about female voters are just about as sexist as an all female audience.

Do not blame all liberals for feminism. Do not blame all feminists for this one show's stupidity and sexism. Those types of generalizations are dangerous. They lead to misunderstandings and cut off potential lines of communication. I am a feminist against this show's sexism. An all woman audience is discrimination against men, and is therefore anti gender equality.

You need to go to court. Your ex will be angry at this because her complete control over your daughter will end. She will probably not let you see your daughter until the court sessions are over. That is a pain you will have to endure. You cannot continue letting her use your child as a poker chip. As difficult as this will be for you, it is best you go to court before your daughter gets any older. The older your daughter is, the more difficult the adjustment will be. Think of her. Go to court a…

In one case a person died. In the other a person did not. Intention is something decided upon in a court of law. No court is needed to see that a person is dead.
/r/MensRights14/01/10 08:32 PM

Her intent is important and will be reviewed at her trial. That is how the western legal system works. Edit: To clarify. This woman is a villain. Perhaps she is as stupid as she is cruel and did not intend to kill, just harm. That is speculation; a possibility. The intent will be a factor in her sentence, but it cannot be a factor until it is legally proven to have been an attempted murder.

Right, but there is no proof had the genders been reversed that it would be called anything different.
/r/MensRights13/01/10 09:59 PM

Those are sad and unfair facts, but this case has nothing to do with them. This woman has not even been sentenced or tried.

What man had a book thrown at him? Why make up a scenario that does not exist to prove there are inequalities in the world? There are enough examples of actual gender biases out there.
/r/MensRights13/01/10 09:01 PM

Saying what could have or would have happened is easy. I'm glad our judicial system only takes into account what actually happened and what the assailant's intentions were.
/r/MensRights13/01/10 08:59 PM
-1

There is enough gender inequality in the world without seeing it in places it doesn't exist. The man did not die, but he could have. That will be under consideration during the woman's trial. You can bet her treatment would be quite different had the man been killed.
/r/MensRights13/01/10 08:58 PM
-9

That woman died. True, this man COULD have died, but he did not. That is not an instance of gender inequality, but an example that the court systems make a distinction between attempted murder and manslaughter.

There is no proof that had the violence been committed by a man that the actions taken against him would be any different. The woman will be tried, as any other criminal.

The current climate of feminism, just so you are aware: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gilliamgibbs/writings/pmf.html I never accused you of any sort of denial. Did you read mine? I am a feminist and I am in not in blind denial of evolutionary psychology. Anthropology and evolutionary sciences are fascinating. They help us see why some of the social constructs facilitating sexism exist. Denying the past is not the way to gain equality in any society.

Like nature vs. nurture, that is up for debate.
/r/MensRights12/01/10 06:24 PM

You couldn't be more wrong. To deny that certain social sexisms stem from biology would be ludicrous. But to say all social sexism comes from evolutionary psychology would be even more crazy. It is a fairly even mix, one influencing the other. A snowball effect ending in what the feminists of the 70's called the patriarchy. A very interesting study on the physicality of gender and its influence on sexism and culture is Leonard Shlain's 'Sex, Time, and Power'.

It is good to see men getting more comfortable about reporting cases of domestic abuse against them. As the article states, regardless of gender, victims of domestic violence need support. It shows strength to admit there is problem in one's own home, and courage change it. The real issue here is, why is domestic abuse in Scotland soaring? The gender of the abused is irrelevant.

I subscribe to mensright because I am a feminist. Men's rights concern me as much as the rights of my own gender. Equality for men is equality for women. Perhaps this is not the views of some other feminists, but I cannot speak for them. I can say that I have never spoken with a feminist who disagrees with me on these matters.

Even if one doesn't believe it, it is a fascinating concept. The idea is gender is completely taught, at least how we define it. Sex is a man made concept. Post modern feminism defines "feminine" as the "other" not as "female". The word and concepts enveloped in it have evolved, precisely because of the reasons you've brought up. No one wants to make the differences between men and women disappear. Of course, men have penises, women have vaginas. I love my genitalia/hormones/physical differences as much as the next gender does. When I say equal I mean legally and socially. Equal pay, equal opportunities, equal treatment, equal education, etc. No one with blue eyes should get paid more than someone with brown eyes for the sole reason of eye color. No one with a penis should get paid more than someone with a vagina for sol…

Most of the issues you've named involve men as well as women, even if only in different ways. For example: making abortion illegal ups the number of men forced to pay child support for children they did not want. If abortion was illegal more males (and females) would grow up in families that do not love them and cannot support them. It takes two to create a child, and what happens to that child should affect both parents equally, legally and emotionally. As for "female friendly family courts," a…

Look, if females are equal to males, than males are equal to females. There is no equality for one gender. If one gender is better than the other, no one is equal. Feminism is about gender equality, about males and females being equal. Feminism is called feminism because at the time it started females were the oppressed, the "other." A person for gender equality not being a feminist because of the root of the word is like a Christian not celebrating Easter because it is named after a pagen Godde…

Men spend just as much time making themselves sexually desirable. Perhaps you are referring to interactions between the average overweight males and female super models. In general, it is an even playing field. In a relationship it is both parties who wish to have sex. If it is any other way, something is very wrong. Get yourself a partner who is as sexually attractive to you as you are to her. If you do not have a sexual partner, perhaps break out of the gender role you've encased yourself in a…

You are sadly mistaken.. At its core, feminism is about letting each person control his/her own body. Why would feminists want the oldest profession to be illegal? As of now, in the USA at least, pimps (males) control the business of prostitution. It is insane and self loathing of you to think an entire gender is out to keep sex from you. Sex is not a lever women have against men. Believe it or not, we like sex, too. It is interesting you bring up the church. Maybe a person claiming to be a femi…

Legalizing prostitution and stopping sex trafficking are two separate issues. However, I am sure the legalization of prostitution would severely cut down on sex slavery in this country, so I can see how you'd make the association. I am not sure which feminist group ever has lobbied against the legalization of prostitution. Your original comment implies that keeping prostitution illegal keeps sex in the hands of women, and that is so far from the truth. Without unions and government regulations, …

Exactly, these numbers are taken at paternity labs. Mostly men who question the paternity of the child get tested in the first place. Oh, of course it should. No one is talking about laws enforcing morality here. The wording used in the title is "responsible people," which is entirely subjective phrasing. In the opinion of some, "responsible people" would never have an unintended pregnancy. Moral definitions vary greatly. I'm asking many questions in this thread due to my surprise that so many of my peers feel biology is the main focus of fatherhood. I never implied your actions and feelings should not be your choice.
/r/MensRights25/09/09 11:43 PM

That is not what I was trying to imply. My biological father left my life when I was very young. My life is normal. He left for his own reasons, which I've grown to understand. I think children are stronger than we give them credit. I was asking hypothetically, if your father was a big part of your life, and in your adulthood he found out he wasn't your Dad, would you expect him to cut you off?
/r/MensRights25/09/09 11:28 PM

That article does not state how many fathers in that 10% know they are not the biological father. The statistic could also include parents who adopt. I thought the post was commenting on 1 in 10 men believing they are the biological father, raising the child as such, and the truth being otherwise.

Suppose you raised a son fully. He grew up wonderfully; you taught him everything you knew. You're a very proud father of a successful offspring. You call his children your grandchildren. Personally, I will not procreate until I am married. This is not required by law, nor should it be. It is a personal decision that I am proud of. You really need to spend more time with your daughter, and I know that isn't up to you. It's difficult for a four year old to understand the birds and the bees, and the "who made me" process. You're not going to be able to explain the high level concept of father to her, you just need to see her often enough to act out the role. Have you spoken to any local law firms about pro bono work? From the wiki article: "'woman' is a debatable category, complicated by class, ethnicity, sexuality, and other facets of identity." In the context of the original article, the male would be the oppressed. Just as Rush Limbaugh does not speak for all conservatives, these women do not speak for me. I am a proud feminist who does not believe a single of the above statements to be true. To say a feminist is anti men is to say an atheist is an anti thiest. There are some ex Christian loud mouths who are simply bitter and hateful towards the religion they feel betrayed them. But their opinions should not be held above those atheists who have come to their beliefs in a peaceful and logical way.
/r/MensRights16/06/09 09:55 PM

I don't blame you for needing a word like "equalist". For almost forty years mainstream media has been tarnishing feminists the way they've only just begin to tarnish atheists. Feminism is about equal rights. Any discrimination against a human being due to their sex or sexual orientation is anti feminism. Use the word equalist if you'd like, but you are fighting along side feminists, not against them.

The point is buttressed, highlighted and underscored by a cavalcade of other double standards where, if the genders were reversed, a different conclusion would be reached.
