I don't know, I think its helpful in swaying opinion. The sub caters to the majority opinion and if more silent people see that more and more people agree with them on the subject it could encourage a better effort to change the content.

If she was able to manipulate someone into doing this its a good con to me. And regardless, we don't throw the book at the victim even if they are stupid? I just don't get where the lynch mob is coming from for the person who was duped.

I mean you can assert that, sure. The fact of the matter is that people can be tricked. They shouldn't be punished for it. Once you get your foot in the door its easy to trick people. I feel like the rage is on the wrong person. It sounds like everyone here has it out for the victim for some reason and that's not the point of this sub.

Well that sucks, but I don't think you understood what I was saying, I don't think she deserves it. Just because someone was a good con person doesn't mean its your fault you were tricked. I'm just seeing a lot of hate for the victim here and its weird. This sub is about serving justice fairly, why are we forming a mob over the only person in all of this who was hurt?

Can you show me where it states that she was blindfolded the entire time? I just don't get where people are getting this from. The article says it was during sex.

This is my first time hearing about this story so I might have not seen something from another source, but doesn't this line heavily imply that the blindfolding was only during sex? "The victim told the court she was so in love with Newland that she agreed to be blindfolded and have her hands tied each time they slept together." And before that it talks about how "Newland (as Fortune) claimed to have a brain tumour, using bandages, a hat and a swimsuit to hide her body" Why would she do that if …

She only wore the blindfold during sex. It isn't like she never saw the fake persona.

I mean if someone scams you really good, you got scammed good. It doesn't change that they deceived you. Consent is important and she wasn't given what she consented to. It isn't illegal to be gullible, but it is illegal to rape a person.

She used an entire group of people as a scapegoat for her actions based on the color of their skin.

Yeah I'd be just as against a man getting dick kicked for public urination. You call authorities, you don't assault a person.

Yeah, I'm just speculating here but I can see a lot of people who would rather hold their ground than admit that they were wrong.

Honestly, I think she knew she was wrong but upset about it and didn't want to admit it so she tried to justify her behavior with that stance.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
