it's the first room you see when you come in the front door In this case, keep the door closed. I imagine guests have no business being in there. If it’s his friends going in, then it’s up to him how much he wants his friends to see his messy room. Now as for cleaning it, talk to your fiancé about it. Ask him if he wants it cleaned in the first place, and then what does he needs done in there and compromise on it. It should be just to keep the room hygienic rather than tidy. If he actually expec…

I would agree with you if Amanda was a profitable self-improvement guru, drill sergeant, etc. because then she’s not practicing what she’s preaching and making money off it. But from her description, she’s just documenting her life. From what I understood of the video you linked, her message is that “I thought living alone would be a genius idea as an introvert, but actually no. A big problem is that I get lazy with my chores and feel bad about it. That’s because I found my motivation for doing …

The dose makes the poison. The route of administration (e.g. taking a tablet of ADHD meds vs smoking meth) alters the pharmachokinetics, changing how much gets to the brain. Someone with ADHD may get prescribed say 10-40mg dexamphetamine over the day (pure ‘legal speed’) but someone looking to get high will take like 90mg at once (although this guy appears to be a meth user and is tolerant) then continue to take 420mg over the night. Not to mention drugs, be they insulin, antibiotics or meth, ge…

What makes you think men are more logical than women? It’s something I’ve wondered myself – is there a sex difference between the use of logic or in logical communication styles? “Men act on logical, not emotion,” but then I see men around me either angry or acting on impulse all the time while women are sitting around just listening. Of course, that’s likely a biased observation. Conversely, I wouldn’t listen to anything a man says simply because ‘his decision is always better because men are m…

Honestly, who knows? All I can say is that I don’t think providing career advice contributes to sexual attraction and emotional intimacy. I certainly don’t feel emotionally close or sexually attracted to any mentors at work, just grateful I know some smart cookies who were able to provide good advice. And thus I’m more likely to maintain favourable business relationships with them. My partner and I work in different fields, but we also have previous experience in each other’s fields, just enough…

I see depression and anxiety like a fever. The fever makes you feel bad and that's the thing you notice. But fever is a body response. We often don't know what it's fighting or if the response is excessive. What is not your friend is the traumatic event.

tone doesn't translate well over text This type of thing is the perfect example of how assuming misunderstanding over malice can be helpful. My other trick is to think when guys are being aggressive, it's because they've assumed malice/competativeness, not because they're being douches for the sake of being difficult.

I learned from the mistakes of my parents (who are separated after 30 years together) too. Basically mum lost trust in dad, and I don’t think that was under his control on why. After this, he felt he was not appreciated at all. Mum felt that too. I think non impulsive communication of feelings are important. A bad day at work means you mention that to your partner instead of keeping it to yourself and letting it leak out. This is what I’m working on, recognizing what the sources of bad moods are…

That's it. My line of thinking is 'if he is a quality guy that responds to 90% of my bids, why I am not reciprocating? Do you want an emotional connection or do you not?'

‘Responsiveness’ – yeah, that’s it. You have to listen, which is better than mindless agreeing. And good point about vetting. Your man is sharing his thoughts, and this is how you can make an emotional connection. If you find yourself disagreeing with most of his thoughts, it’s probably not going to work. There is only so much you can pretend to agree with!

I think the wall is more relevant to dating, unless your relationship is on the way out. For me, the wall is there to remind myself to ensure I don’t take my partner for granted. We’ve been through a lot together, so I trust he’s not going to leave for the first newer model that arrives. Instead I recognize he’s got options and I should not hold him back from theoretically better relationships. So I shouldn’t let myself go. Being proactive by playing some dread game on myself keeps things exciti…

Those charts are selection bias of the highest degree. Your hypothesis is that female but not male n-count adversely effects multiple dementions, yet you cite women only data. Where is the data for men? It’s a no brainer that risk of STDs goes up with n-count, for either gender. More partners = more likely to meet someone with a disease. But what exactly is the risk difference between men and women? I’m instantly suspicious when only women data is presented. Could it be that men are more likely …

My parents nagged a lot. Each other and me. The problem with it was that even if they were correct, the negative tone made me feel like doing whatever they said even less. Retrospectively, it’s because it seems like the nagger doesn’t understand why you won’t do that thing, so I’m not going to listen to someone who doesn’t understand. If they say some sort of fact to back up the nagging, I investigate the claim that they are nagging about further as I’m more skeptical of it. Nagging is a short-t…
