I don't think you're using the word you think you're using. Misogyny is the hatred of women. Maybe you mean "misandrist"? And besides, I don't really see a problem with this. I mean, portraying somebody as dumb doesn't automatically imply that every person in every demographic they belong to is dumb as well. Considering that calling somebody a rapist because they're a man is enough to make somebody into a vocal loony that isn't worth their salt, I would say the latter.

I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with OP and his interpretation of this particular Norman Rockwell painting, but inspired artists will often attempt to imbue meaning into their work. If you take every piece of art simply at face value you may end up missing out on much of what the artist was trying to convey.

Often people that are labeled "doomsday preppers" aren't as nutty as they're stereotyped to be. There are legitimate reasons to want to be prepared for disaster. I don't know the specifics of this guy's mom and what she did but I wouldn't be surprised if she had some food storage or something and one game of telephone later, she's a nutcase preparing for the end of the world.
