It’s humble and accountable that you’ve been able to learn from his more disciplined upbringing! These are just skill sets, not moral failings, and they’re completely learnable. It’s really normal that there would be one more orderly person in the relationship, and you’re not obligated to meet that person’s demands all the time. It’s generous to respect the difference and put forth effort to make the home comfortable for both of you. It might help to find some images of home organization and dis…

I don’t think this is a communication issue but more a symptom of a larger problem. What’s really grabbing me here is that as an interior designer, creating beauty and order is actually your skill set, so it’s probably disappointing and frustrating to both of you that you’re having this challenge. In the short term, I think a great solution would be to simply show excitement for the project. Like, “yes, it would be so great to have an organized pantry!” Then, organize the pantry (I would play a …

For the Laura Doyle stuff… I would absolutely shift your focus to self-care, vulnerability and staying on your paper. Your husband’s reactions are on his paper, how you show up is on yours. Being dignified and taking care of and loving yourself is 100% FOR you. Choosing your focus wisely is also 100% FOR you and your own experience/wellbeing. As for vulnerability… that’s a skill I’m working on myself but from reading this you seem very confused about what’s going on. Feelings are simple… so I’m …

You might benefit from a somatics-based therapy. Fatigue and ADHD symptoms can be a sign of dysregulation, specifically chronic dissociation. It is very possible to change your state and become higher functioning once you start healing your nervous system. If you want some resources send me a DM. 💛

I want to add that there is a lot of overlap in the presentation of borderline personality disorder and that of untreated CPTSD. You are obviously a trauma survivor. I’m wondering if the tickling and biting are maybe triggering a fight response and neither of you has the capacity or insight to navigate… I would definitely get some support. I know you’ve said you like pain during sex but it might be best to keep things very vanilla and seek some professional support around past trauma until you f…

From what you wrote it sounds like this man is involved in the polarity community. These things - calling you my love, breathwork, seemingly heart-felt/soulful conversations - are all indicative of the teachings/teachers in this community. Even the conversation about your differing intentions might be his way of ‘creating a container’ for the relationship. The idea of experiencing textures of the feminine is also classic polarity, stemming from the work of David Deida. If you’ve never met a man …

Hi! Thanks for replying, I’ll keep that in mind for next time. What is a relationship makeover?

I really appreciate you sharing about the role playing. It’s definitely an edge for me (not a theater kid!) but I’ll see how I can work it in.

Yes, I can see how I am responsible and I’m looking to change. Thank you for replying.

That’s it exactly. Sexual frequency is measurable and within my control. I want to let the emotional intimacy part go and focus on finding affirmation and validation through the physical connection.

Hi, thank you for this loving message. I have historically said no when I felt it. It’s the coaches I’m seeing who have pinned our problems on me not providing enough sex. I’ve spent two decades saying no and the concerns around emotional connection have sent me towards this coaching. My homework from the coaches is to provide more sex.

To be honest, I regret going into this at all. It wasn’t my intention to get into his behaviour. I should have been more intentional in my original post.

Agreed. This bugs me too, aware of the origins and agree that it implies intent to manipulate. He usually tells me that what I think isn’t happening or isn’t possible which I think he truly believes so not manipulation. It feels very dismissive. He’s been called out for gaslighting by a third-party which is why I’m including it. I’m open to it not being gaslighting. I’m also open to being wrong about the thing in question. What I’m not open to is continuing to express myself when he’s not meetin…

Three things come up: - he disagrees with my perspective and tells me I’m wrong - he can’t relate and tells me I’m seeing things incorrectly - he’s trying to avoid taking accountability for something by minimizing or dismissing or justifying I don’t think there’s an intent to manipulate. More like a carelessness or an attempt at self-protection.

This is so helpful. Thank you. You’re exactly right, and this aspect of his personality makes him successful at work. I think shifting my mindset to the positive would make a big difference.

Thank you for the advice. Yes, it’s always been like this. He’s just not really sensitive or intuitive and I am both of those to a fault.

Hi, long-term marriage with kids. I’ve accepted that it won’t change and am okay with the conditions. Not interested in ‘talks’ anymore :)

Hi, thanks for replying. He’s a good person and great father. We’ve been together forever and have a very established life. I’ve decided to stay.

Hi! Thanks for replying. Long term marriage and kids. I’ve decided to stay. I’m finally at a place where I’ve stopped delusionally expecting him to support my feelings and world view and want to spare myself the hurt feelings. My husband and I are getting coaching together and I’m working with a coach one-on-one. In both I’ve been encouraged to provide more sex. I’d like to be able to do that for the relationship and at the same time take better care of myself emotionally.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
